Title: Life of food, clothing, and shelter
2011.5.29 Sunday morning worship service
Bible: Genesis 3:6-8
Title: Food, Food, Life
Genesis 3:6-8 ‘6. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eye, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and gave it to her husband with her, and he also ate. And their eyes were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and fig leaves were woven together for a skirt. And when the wind blew that day, they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.' - Amen.
The text is the scene where Adam and Eve, you know well, in the beginning sinned. Pay attention to the fact that they received changes in their life, food, and shelter in the dreamlike Garden of Eden. It is said that the basic human life is called the life of food, clothing, and shelter, from eating according to the text of the Bible. We would like to share the message in the order of <Living for Food and Living>.
1. The problem of eating and living
The Garden of Eden is used in the New Testament as “paradise, paravdeiso”, and it is a word that symbolically expresses the kingdom of heaven. It was a place where there was no shortage. However, in the text Genesis 3:6 '... The woman took the fruit, ate it, and was with her. I gave it to my husband who was with him, and he also ate.
Adam, a man, was responsible for calling for repentance, but he also sinned. Isaiah 31:2 “The LORD is wise, and he will bring calamity; he will not change his words; he will rise up and strike the house of those who do evil, and those who help in evil.” Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and that it was a tree desirable to make one wise…
Satan encouraged people to think that the fruit of the ban was good. There are separate areas and methods of economic life for believers to work and deal with. Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered and said to them, “It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Only when we live according to the truth from the Lord will we receive true food.
2. The problem of wearing and buying
If you look at the origins of clothing, it is biblically that they were needed after sin.
Genesis 3:7 “Then their eyes were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made them a skirt.”
Skirts woven from fig leaves will wither in the sun and will not be worn permanently. Later, he received the grace of God by putting on animal skins. This means that we must go beyond the clothes of the world and put on the clothes of the righteousness of faith and eternal life.
In Matthew 22, there is a scene where he compares the kingdom of heaven to a banquet house and drives out those who enter without robes. It symbolizes the clothes of faith that will enter heaven. According to Revelation 7:13, those who are clothed in white are those who are saved.
Romans 13:14 “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ only, and do not devote yourself to the lusts of the flesh”
3. Residency Issues
In Korea, the number of self-owned houses accounts for about 54% of the total. In the beginning, the entire paradise of the Garden of Eden was a house and a garden. Biblically, the motive for needing a house started from finding a hiding place for a life that had sinned against God. Genesis 3:8 “When the wind blew that day, they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”
Even in the words we use, when we say, “Let’s look at the face,” it means to look at the current situation rather than the external face itself. Adam and Eve were afraid of fellowship with God and wanted to avoid it. It hid among the trees. Therefore, the origin of the house was necessary because God feared it because of original sin.
No matter how beautiful and sturdy a house is on the ground, it is a curtain that will eventually fall. The house we will get is heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:1 “If our tent house on earth is destroyed, we know that we have a house that is made by God, an eternal house in heaven, not made with hands.” 2 Peter 3:13 ‘We believe in righteousness according to his promise. I look to the new heavens and the new earth where I am.”
Looking at the biblical basis for living, clothing and shelter, we now have to try the problem of eating and living in Christ in the Word and ultimately live by eating the gospel of truth. You will have to put on the clothes of the righteousness you get. The land we want is not land or real estate to be speculated on, but the eternal heaven of our home, Shincheonshinji. I pray that you and I will be able to enjoy the spiritual environment God has given to you by establishing the changed values of life, food, clothing and shelter, and reinterpreting and handling them in the gospel at any time.
