Title: Living by the Word

Luke 5:1-7 Life dependent on the Word
In today's text,
It is recorded that Peter obeyed the Lord's command and threw his net into the deep and caught a great number of fish.
Then, what is God's lesson to us through these words?
We would like to think about a few things through the words of the text given to us today.
1. Peter obeyed the word of the Lord.
Look at Luke 5:4-5.
“When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Go out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Simon answered and said,
Teacher, we have toiled all night and have gained nothing, but at your word I will let down the nets.”
That's right. Peter said to the Lord, “At your word I will let down my nets.”
This was the cause of the event of the blessing that came to Peter.
Peter wasn't a fisherman by chance... or just for fun...
It is said that his occupation was a fisherman, and his livelihood was fishing in the Sea of Galilee.
He was a person who was well aware of the ecology of the Sea of Galilee after many years of failure and hard work.
Although he made use of all of his long experience today and worked all night long, he didn't get anything.
It is said that he was a man with abundant knowledge about the Sea of Galilee.
But when a man named Jesus came and said, “Go out into the deep and let down your nets.”
He obeyed the word and let down the nets.
Peter, when he heard the words of Jesus, it must have been absurd indeed.
Wasn't the Lord's word like writing a letter in front of Confucius and wrinkling it in front of a chrysalis?
But Peter obeys the nonsense.
As a sailor... and as a fisherman, I threw away all my pride, cleaned up the nets I was trimming again for tomorrow, went to the depths, and lowered my nets.
Why?
The words Jesus said were common sense... and empirically a demand that could only fail, but Peter's teachings from Jesus were possible because he burned his heart and experienced unbearable emotions and grace.
Hearing the words of the Lord's teachings, Peter thought of the Lord's teachings that he had heard before, even though the Lord had made unreasonable demands of himself beyond common sense and experience. .
Then, something amazing happened.
As soon as they lowered the net, the net was full of fish.
This incident was an astonishing event that he had never seen or experienced as a fisherman for many years.
Dear all!
I pray in the name of the Lord that you will live a life that depends on and obeys the word of God.
2. As we obeyed the Word, amazing blessings came.
According to Luke 5:6-7,
“Therefore, there were so many fish that the nets were torn. So he beckoned his companion on the other boat to come
When they asked for help, they came and filled the boat twice, and they fell asleep.”
By obeying the Word, Peter experiences the amazing work of God.
We can learn a surprising lesson from this incident.
If we try to plan and achieve something on our own, we will inevitably fail.
When we empty ourselves and become those who depend only on the word of God
This means that you will be able to experience the amazing work of God working together.
We caught so many fish that we couldn't handle it on our own, so we asked friends from other boats to help us put our nets on the boat, but we caught so many fish that the boats were filled to the brim and the boats were almost submerged.
Dear all!
When we obey the Word like this, amazing blessings come.
These blessings bring joy not only to yourself but also to your neighbors, and become a life that serves as a witness to unbelievers.
Everyone! Wouldn't you like to receive these blessings?
According to Deuteronomy 28:2-6,
It says that when you obey the Word, you will be blessed whether you come in or go out. This is God's promise.
Conversely, when there is no obedience, no miracles, blessings, or answers can be expected.
3. Many people came to follow the Lord through this incident.
According to Luke 5:10-11,
“James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's associates, were also astonished. Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch men.” So they set the boats ashore, and left everything behind, and followed Jesus.”
Through obedience based on the words of one Peter, everyone who was there was astonished.
Peter was so amazed that he even frightened Jesus. Through this event, I realized that Jesus was not an ordinary person.
And as a result of his obedience, even Andrew, James, and John, who were next to him, gave him the assurance of faith that he could immediately obey the call of Jesus, “From now on you will take men.”
According to John 12:11,
“Because of Lazarus, many Jews went and believed in Jesus,” he said.
Blessings, because of each one of you, I pray that many people will live a life of faith and a life of witness that allows them to accept Jesus.
To do this, we need the faith and confidence to immediately obey the Lord's call.
Just as Matthew, a tax collector, immediately obeyed the Lord's call,
Like the prophet Isaiah, in response to the Lord’s call, “Lord, here I am. Send me.” I pray in the name of the Lord that you and I will all be able to respond to that call.
