Title: Living worthy of the Gospel
Content 9. Living worthy of the Gospel (1:27-30)
Even if there is no Paul in the Philippian church, I recommend that you live a life worthy of the gospel. Do not be afraid of your adversaries, but participate in the battle of Christ's sufferings.
1. Living in cooperation with the gospel faith (v. 27)
① Life of a citizen of heaven = Church members who became citizens of heaven by believing in the gospel of Christ must now live according to the gospel, which is the law of heaven.
(Colossians 1:10) “Walking worthy of the Lord, pleasing in all things, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God”
(1 Thessalonians 2:12) “This is so that you may walk worthy of the God who called you to his kingdom and glory.”
② Living as one = The worthy life of the gospel is for the members to have one will and live a life of oneness.
Only in accordance with the revelation of Jesus Christ, we must live together for one purpose. One purpose = faith in the gospel.
(Philippians 2:2) “Be of one mind, having the same love, of being of one accord, of one mind.”
③ Cooperation based on the faith of the gospel = It is to encourage the members to unite and keep the faith of the gospel through the church.
(1 Corinthians 1:10) “I beseech you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, and that you be perfectly joined in the same mind and in the same mind.
2. A life free from fear of adversaries (verse 28)
① Attitude toward the adversary = Jesus Christ, who is the subject of the gospel, has overcome the powers of the world, so we should not be afraid.
(Hebrews 13:6) “Therefore we boldly said, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid; what can man do to me?”
(2 Timothy 1:7) “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind.”
② The life of the saints in victory and joy = The saints are not afraid and if they live with faith, victory is always promised, so they should rejoice and enjoy the victory.
3. A life of sharing in suffering (verses 29, 30)
① The grace of God that gives us faith = We are saved by the grace of faith.
(Ephesians 2:8) “For by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
② Meaning of suffering of the saints = In the world, peace and all things are blessed, but for the saints, peace in the world is woe. Because it is natural that the world that crucified Jesus persecutes us.
(1 Peter 4:13) “But rejoice in your sharing in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may rejoice and rejoice in His glory” (1 Peter 4:13).
