Philippians 1
1. Paul's prayer to the Philippians (1-11)
① Pray for the Philippians to overflow with love (1:9)
“I pray that your love may abound more and more with knowledge and all understanding”
Love is the most precious thing, and it should be pursued by Christians. But it must not be blind or unrestrained. Therefore, Paul prayed that the Philippians would overflow in love with knowledge and understanding.
② Pray for the fruit of righteousness through the Holy Spirit (1:11)
“I pray that you may be filled with the fruit of impartiality through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
Believers who believe in Jesus Christ and have their sins forgiven are praying that they will bear the fruit of impartially abundantly through the Holy Spirit and give praise and glory to God. Because this is the purpose of the life of the saints, and it is to please God.
2. Paul's Vision of the Gospel (12-26)
Although Paul was in prison, he had a vision of the gospel.
① The gospel that spreads widely (12-14)
The Philippians were in a state of considerable atrophy, thinking that the gospel ministry would be severely damaged by Paul's imprisonment. However, contrary to the concerns of the bishops, the gospel of Christ was being spread widely.
② Paul’s earnest wish
When Paul was imprisoned, Paul's rivals rejoiced in Paul's imprisonment, and they wanted to break Paul's heart by preaching the gospel to their heart's content. However, Paul is arranging his position to be happy if Christ is preached anyway. Paul's earnest desire is for the gospel to be preached and Christ to be exalted.
③ The principle of Paul's ministry
“Whether by life or death, Christ may be glorified in my body”
Whether you live for the glory of Christ, or die for Christ, for Christ's sake.
3. Counsel to the Philippian Church (27-30)
① The problem of the Philippian church
Problems in the Philippian church - Euodia and Syntyche's feud, the infiltration of the circumcisionists, the infiltration of false teachers
② The unity of the saints
Paul urges the Philippians to practice the truth, not just to know the truth, and to live as born-again saints as citizens of the kingdom of heaven, and in particular, exhorts them to become one. “You stand with one mind and work together for the faith of the gospel with one mind”
③ Christian Privileges
Christians have been given the grace of God, the privilege of living for Christ.
