Content 56. Loot Distribution
Numbers 31:25-54
Moses said that even though this war, which took all of the east side of the Jordan River, was carried out by God's command, the soldiers were those who touched the dead, killed, or touched the blood during the war. ' was ordered to do.
Then, just as God had the initiative in this war, God directly set the principle of distribution of the spoils captured in this war. God treated both those who fought directly in the front and those who were guarding the camp from the rear equally, and distributed the spoils equally.
Moses divided all the spoils in half, giving half to the settlers and the other half to the common people. In addition, the soldiers who received the spoils gave one-fifth of their share to God as a gift of thanks to Eleazar the priest. And the common people also took a fifty-fifth of their share and gave it to the Levites who were in charge of the tabernacle. This strongly suggests that as Israel's chosen people, they are a common destiny.
Meanwhile, the military officers gave the most precious jewels to God. This was a gift of thanks to God for protecting not a single person from dying in the battle against Midian and giving them a perfect victory.
They believed that their victory was not due to their superior tactics or strategies, but to God's grace. They were not intoxicated with victory, but only gave the glory of that victory to God.
That's right. Mature believers do not sleep or do anything and know how to acknowledge and appreciate God's guidance and help.
A life of gratitude for everything! It is the way we should live.
