Title: Lord Save Me (Matthew 14:22-33)
Contents This morning, I would like to share the grace of God while pondering the text under the title “Lord, save me.”
The story of the disciples meeting a storm while sailing on the Sea of Galilee is recorded in the 4 Gospels. It is recorded twice in the Gospel of Matthew, and it is recorded that the disciples met a storm twice while sailing on the Sea of Galilee.
The disciples, who were crossing the sea in a boat, met a harsh wind. The waves grew stronger and the boat shook violently. An unexpected storm caused the disciples to suffer severe hardship. This incident showed one aspect of a hard life. Humans are not beings living in a paradise like the Garden of Eden, where there are no hardships and storms, but beings who go through the tribulations that constantly flow.
Often Christians pray, “Lord, let me walk on a smooth road today, and let me not experience any hardship or pain.” However, there are many times when we encounter unexpected storms.
So, why do hardships come to Christians?
If suffering comes to those who do not believe in God, it can be said that they deserve suffering because they are unbelievers. But why does suffering come even to believers who believe? In Matthew 8:23, we see that the disciples met a storm even though they crossed the sea with Jesus. Here we can ask the following questions: If only the disciples had sailed in a boat without Jesus, they could have met a storm, but they wondered why they met a storm even though they went with Jesus.
Jesus is the Creator and Ruler of all things. However, he wonders why he made the disciples meet the storm. The disciples were not those who unwittingly believed in Jesus. They were devoted disciples who abandoned their homes, put aside their work, and left their parents and brothers to follow and serve the Lord. The fact is that they met a storm even though they were so devoted disciples, and even though they went with Jesus, they met a storm.
Today, you might think that it is possible when people who do not believe in Jesus meet a storm, but it is difficult to understand if a storm comes to those who believe in Jesus and lead a faithful life of faith. If you look at the text of the text we read, you can see that the disciples obeyed the words of Jesus. Jesus commanded his disciples. In obedience to Jesus' command to “cross over to the other side,” he was sailing through the Sea of Galilee and encountered a storm.
If you were to disobey and disobey God's word and then encountered a storm, you might think that it might be the case. uh again
