Title: Love the LORD your God, Deuteronomy 11
Moses again taught who God was and how the people of Israel were to live. The people of Israel should live by loving and serving the God who saved them.
1 “Therefore, love the LORD your God…” (1,13,22)
2 “You will remember today…” (2-7) “Therefore, … keep all the commandments” (8-25)
Love comes from remembering and recalling acts of love and salvation (see Deuteronomy 5:15, 8:2, 15:15). Moses told the Israelites of the Exodus from Egypt and the 'works' that God had done to their ancestors in the Age of the Wilderness. asked to remember. These are the miracles that He performed in Egypt, the “works” He did to the Egyptian army, and the “works” He performed in the wilderness. “You have seen all these great works of the Lord” (7).
Love is manifested and completed through works. Love is hearing, keeping, doing, and serving (1,8,13,22). Love is not speaking in tongues or angels, but hearing, keeping, and doing God's words and commands. Even Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:14, 15:10). Hearing, keeping, and doing the Word and command means the following (18-20, 6:6-9). I engrave it on my heart (18), put it on my wrist and between my forehead as a mark (18), teach it to my children (19), lie down on the road at home, get up and preach the word (19), and write it on the doorposts and outside doors of my house (20). That is, let the Word dominate all areas of life.
3 “I set before you today a blessing and a curse” (26-32)
God's words and commands can be a blessing or a curse. If you love God and hear it, keep it, and do it, it becomes a blessing, and if you do not love God and do not listen to it, keep it, or do it, it becomes a curse. Moses taught this with three emphasis (Deuteronomy 30:15-18, 19-20). The content of the blessing is to enter Canaan and live a long life, but it refers to spiritually entering the kingdom of God and receiving God's grace and eternal life. “Rain from heaven,” “God’s eyes are always on it,” “early rain, and the latter rain” symbolize spiritual blessings. It is important to have a good understanding of blessings (eg, the 8 blessings Jesus taught). It is a blessing to give up attachment to the world and money and live happily while loving and giving the Lord, neighbor, and heaven.
