I. Text Commentary
This text was spoken to the Pharisees who were watching Jesus heal the sick on the Sabbath, showing that the works of the law are in love, that is, the true principle of the law is love. In addition, while explaining what the life of the people of heaven should be like in this world, He tells us to love our enemies, which can be called the climax. Today, at this time, we will learn why the meaninglessness of love that only loves those who love us and why loving those who cannot love is the most intense expression of God's love, and what God wants to teach us through that love let's take a look
II. love someone you love
For the people of the world, just repaying the person who loves them with love rather than an enemy can be a wonderful thing, but for the people of heaven, they have to go beyond the limits of such worldly love. What was meant by Jesus' teaching that there is nothing to be praised for in loving only those who love oneself in this way?
A. If love for people is worthwhile: Everyone in this world is called to love God. When God created humans, He gave them the ability to love and love itself. Therefore, human beings were born to love God, and they have the ability to love what they like and the ability to hate what they hate. After the Fall, intelligence disappeared and the error of loving things that were not worth loving was created, but human nature to love things did not change. In this way, human beings are loving beings born as beings with fervent love, and especially believers are those who know that the central axis of that love is God and should be like that. Believers are also called to ‘love your neighbor’. But in loving a person, what kind of love should it be? Love is the action of the mind and spirit to aim at an object, to be constantly attached to it, and to enjoy it. In other words, in love, the object should be the ultimate goal. If not, that love is not true love, it is just self-love that is filthy.
B. The blind spot in loving the one you love that love is only an extended self-love: therefore, loving someone you love is something you do for the joy of self-love, and all the hard work, sacrifices, and concessions you make toward that person are technically me it will make you happy A sacrifice that does not exceed the joy I can enjoy is not a sacrifice of true love. Therefore, the ultimate object of love for human beings is that they are not God or themselves. Then, what should be done so that it does not become unclean love or selfish love that is an extension of this self-love? There were many times when I couldn't love, but confessing that I couldn't help but love because of God provides the answer. In loving someone, in order for that love to become true love, let the person themselves become the means of loving God, not the object of love (this is just a transformed self-love, as demonstrated above). To love God is the ultimate goal of all our love, and this is the love of Caritas that He wants.
III. Loving someone you can't love
A. Sacrifice: In order to love someone who cannot love, sacrifice is inevitable. When we think of a love that usually involves sacrifice, we think of a heroic, sentimental love that devotes all to the poor for the poor. But it is not real love that comes from true self-sacrifice. It is much easier to make a great sacrifice for the one you can love than it is to make a very small sacrifice for the one you cannot love. Because the former is what you want, and the latter is not what you want. This is because, unlike the vague spirit of sacrifice one can have for all those who are poor and suffering, the sacrifice one has to make to love someone who is close and deeply hurts them can never be sentimental. All mankind loves terribly, so why not love the one person who is by your side? That kind of love is impossible without a willingness to give up on yourself entirely. Think of the love of Jesus Christ for us. His love, shown as a sacrifice on the cross, causes us to throw away the vain greed of the world and love for ourselves.
(Example- The story of children who wrote down '20 reasons why you can't help but love your father') True love is not only loving people who understand and have mercy on you, but also people who do not understand you at all, and are full of misunderstandings and hatred. I am the first to reach out to someone who does not have it, this is the essence of Jesus' love. The sacrifice that inevitably follows when you love the unlovable is accompanied by your own death. If you do not die constantly, you will never be able to bear the sacrifice. Those who love the one person they cannot love to the end than those who love ten thousand people who they can love are closer to the love of Jesus, the death of Jesus. Because of Christ, who deeply loved those who hated him and showed that love first through the sacrifice of the cross, we are able to love even our enemies.
(Task- Write down '3 reasons why you can't help but love' while thinking of those who can't love. You will find that the problem is not with that person, but with yourself, who can't love him. Pray and practice for a week.) .
B. Self-Completion
IV. Conclusion and application
“God demonstrates his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). To love the one who cannot truly love is evidence that we have this love in us. I hope you will heal the broken world with this love and become saints who embrace the sick in their hearts.
Sharing 1. Let's share the experience of God's love that we felt while obeying the Word of the past week.
Sharing 2. Let's share the overall content of this week's sermon and tell each other the parts that came to us deeply.
Sharing 3. If love for people is to be worthwhile, where should it start? (Mt 22:37-47)
Sharing 4. Jesus came to this world and extended the hand of reconciliation for those who have turned their backs on God. Like the Lord, let us share our experiences of sacrificing by loving someone we cannot love. (Focused on success and failure)
Sharing 5. What is God's way to lead us, who are incomplete, to perfection? If there is a picture of yourself that you have realized among them, please share. 2006-02-19
