The same event is recorded in the Bible. When the barley was ripe in the field, the Philistine army invaded. At this time, David was completely surrounded by the Philistine army and was in danger. David is preferred and thirsty because there is no water. Verse 17, “David longed for it and said, “Who will make me drink of water from the well by the gate of Bethlehem?” Bethlehem is David's hometown. Perhaps David was under siege by the Philistines and had an ominous thought that if he made a mistake, he could face the end. So David was in trouble. It is David's self-talk, filled with bitterness and sorrow, wishing he would die after drinking the water of his hometown for the last time because he was so thirsty that he could not drink a sip of water. Then three generals appear. These three warriors are the second three of the 30 warriors. David had 30 warriors. These 30 people are first-class officials who directly or indirectly made revolutionary contributions to ascend David as king. But among the 30 warriors, there were especially the first three and the second three.
The second three are three generals who are superior to the 30 warriors, but their valor is not that of the first three. (11:11-12) Shammah (2 Samuel 23:11). They cannot be the generals who show off their bravery.
Verse 18, “These three men broke through the army of the Philistines and came to David, bringing water from a well by the gate of Bethlehem.” will go to Crossing life and death?...
