Contents

Luke 12:13-21 The rich fool Topic: 19. matter. 2009. 8. 16.

Introduction

A rich man is often overly proud of himself, but there are things he should be afraid of.

1. To request a judicial decision. (13-14)

2. Life is not in things. (15-19)

3. Wealth and possessions. (20-21)

1. To request a judicial decision. (13-14)

A person is having a dispute with his brother over the inheritance.

The law stipulates that the older brother be given 2/3 and the younger one 1/3.

It was a routine task for rabbis to mediate legal disputes.

One). The main thing the person wanted was material wealth, money, and wealth. (13)

This person was one of the crowds who were listening to what Jesus was preaching and approached during a brief break.

The man appealed to Jesus to help him find what he thought had been stolen.

2). Jesus flatly refused. (14)

“This person” was treated differently from other people.

Jesus refused to get involved in the worldly business of mediating property and money disputes.

Even though this man was there, his heart was taken away by too much interest in property and money, so he

It was clear that he didn't listen.

3). Comparison of the thoughts of that person and Jesus. (13-14)

The person's heart was fixed on the things of the world, wealth and money, wealth and selfishness.

Jesus' heart was fixed on something higher and noble, salvation and life, heaven and eternity.

The mission of Jesus is not to give people wealth, but to give them abundant and eternal life.

2. Life is not in things. (15-19)

There are facts to note.

One). He was severely rebuked. (15, 16)

Please refrain from saying, “Be careful, get rid of all covetousness”. defeat it This is a double warning.

“Defeat” means to protect yourself from enemies.

“Covetousness” Man's great sin is covetousness. Covetousness desires more and more.

* Even though life is not in possession.

2). Claiming “I” shows that greedy humans are passionately egocentric. (17-19)

“I” is asserted 6 times in 3 short verses. You are only paying attention to yourself.

Although he received great material blessings, he did not thank God for his blessing. (17-18)

The bigger one. I started thinking only of me and myself.

3). The greatest mistake of man is selfishness, self-indulgence, and wasting life. (19)

Man's only purpose is to be comfortable, have plenty to eat and drink, and enjoy life the way he wants

① He only cares about himself, only living easily and comfortably, self-indulgence and wasting as much as he wants.

think.

② He practiced living and enjoying life until he built his barn.

③ This is the most surprising thing. He just thought of these things. He didn't do them at all. They were just thoughts of the mind.

(Deuteronomy 8:11-14; Proverbs 11:24, 21:13, 24:11-12, 28:27; Isa 5:8; Ecclesiastes 5:13; Zechariah 7:6; Matt 19:23...)
