Title: Luke 16:1~13 The unrighteous steward
Luke 16:1~13 The unrighteous steward Topic: 44. Steward 2009. 8. 9.
◎ Introduction: This is the most difficult part to understand in the entire Bible (verse 8);
※ A steward is a trusted servant who is in charge of the master's jaemin.
① Ministers (1 Corinthians 4:1) ② General believers (1 Peter 4:10; Luke 16:1; Luke 12:41-48)
1. The parable of the unrighteous steward. (1-7)
※ Jesus talks about 4 things about the unrighteous steward
One). He was reprimanded for embezzling and wasting the “property” of his master.(1)
※ God has entrusted some “wealth” to everyone.
(Life, talents, home, wealth, money, duties, responsibilities, conscience, family, many other things...)
※ Although there is a difference in degree, all of them embezzle and misuse the property.
(Matthew 25:14-15; compare Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 4:2, 12:7ff; Luke 19:13; 1 Pet 4:10, )
2). I was asked to “count what I saw”.(2)
※ The owner was told that Cheongji was wasting his “ownership” (only heard rumors).
* Shemhara: The owner gave the steward a chance to prove his credibility and integrity (not fired).
* You will not be able to continue: You will be fired if you are not sincere in caring for your property.
※ To count what you have seen is to do it when you die. (Hebrews 9:27)
* If the steward is found to be insincere, his office will be dismissed and he will be expelled. (Heaven, Eternal Life)
※ Death will take away all the riches of this world.
* If our account is just, we will assume a greater responsibility for the Lord.
(Matthew 18:23, 21:34, 25:19, Luke 19:15, Romans 14:12, Hebrews 9:27, 1 Peter 4:4)
3). He knew he was guilty, but he did not change his attitude or ask for mercy (3 4).
※ The only hope of an unrighteous steward is to ask for forgiveness. (Proverbs 28:13, Isa 29:15, 30:1, )
※ “What shall I do?” He knew that he had done something wrong and that the owner would be fired for it. * He was too proud to ask for forgiveness.
* He was too proud to be a repentant sinner.
※ “I know what I am going to do” There are two ways of action that I came up with.
* He could work (digging the land). However, it was loaded to work in a lower position.
* He could beg. I was too proud of myself for that.
4). Forgetting the owner, he tried to win the favor of people and win their favor and reward.
※ I called the debtor and forgave or reduced the owner's debt in an dishonest way.
* A steward (religious person) in a responsible position led people astray (conspiracy).
※ This behavior is moralizing the things of the master (other people's lives and gifts).
※ Guaranteed his status and livelihood and led people astray for his own gain.
* One grain of oil is 33 liters x 50 = 1,650 liters, and one grain of wheat is 360 liters x 20 = 7,200 liters
2. This generation is wise in material pursuits (8)
※ This generation that pursues worldly riches is wiser than God's people who pursue spiritual things.
One). The unrighteous steward said, “I acted wisely.”
※ He cheated to achieve his goals, and for his own wealth and comfort.
※ It was wise for the steward to do his best to prepare for himself (① personal welfare, ② preparation for the future).
(*Not a compliment to cheating.)
2). Why is it that people of this generation are wiser than those who believe?※ Compare the management of physical and spiritual wealth. Where are you more committed?
① The sons of this generation devote much effort and labor to manage their wealth. But
② Believers lack all effort and devotion for spiritual things.
(Matthew 13:23, Luke 9:23-24, Romans 12:1, Proverbs 3:5, 23:26,)
3. Management of the believer's property. (9)
One). Use your wealth for good (9)
※ Believers should not be told that they want to be friends with wealth.
* If you use it to help others, you can earn friends and make an impact on Christ's behalf. * Then you will receive help in this life (Matthew 6:33, Luke 18:29~30, Ex 23:25, Mal 3:10)
※ His voluntary mercy will be recognized by God
* If you do not receive help in this life, you will be rewarded abundantly in heaven.
(James 1:10-11, Matthew 6:20, 19:21, Luke 12:33, 14:33, 2 Corinthians 5:1, Philippians 3:8, 1 Timothy 6:19, Revelation 3:18)
2). You must be diligent in managing your property. (10-12)
※ It is determined that he will be entrusted to him forever by his sincerity in handling wealth.
(1) Money and wealth are not the most reliable things given to humans.(10)
※ Wealth and money cannot be compared to becoming heirs of God in union with Christ.
(2) They are not sincere in money and wealth, and they do not have the qualifications to entrust the true wealth of heaven
※ Our lives and wealth belong to God. It is what God has entrusted to us while we are here on earth.
Therefore, we are managing as stewards.
※ The rewards given to faithful stewards include (* Attached Sheet) ① Rewards related to our essence and actual condition
② There are rewards related to ministry, status, and government ③ There are rewards related to inheritance.
