Title: Luke 05:1-11 Peter's Eye

Contents Luke 5:1-11

Peter struggled all night, but he did not get anything and was organizing the day's work. Then, Jesus comes. And I'd like to borrow his boat for a while. After completing all the work of the day, Peter offers his boat to listen to the teachings of this famous rabbi. And listen to what Jesus is saying in the vicinity of Jesus. On that day, Peter heard an authoritative word he had never heard before. At that moment when his heart is filled with emotion, Jesus says, 'Go into the deep and let down your nets.' Peter obeyed Jesus because he had already received grace. The results were huge. He caught a huge amount of fish at once that he had never caught in his life as a fisherman. But the story of the Bible does not end there.

To his surprise, Peter's gaze was not on the fish he had caught. I looked at Jesus who told me to get into the same boat with him and let down the nets into the deep. With trembling lips, he falls down at Jesus' knees and says: "Leave me, Lord, for I am a sinner." Peter was afraid because he was too short to be with the Lord. In front of the material blessings that were granted to him, and the blessings of material exceeding his own efforts, he did not lose all eyes and hearts to the material, but had a fixed mind on Jesus.

So Jesus says to Peter. Jesus said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed them" (Mark 1:17-18). It was Jesus' words to become his disciples. What is Peter's response to that statement? He threw away the many fish he had caught, the boats, nets , and everything he had ever used and followed Jesus. We can see Peter leaving behind all the material blessings he had gained through obedience and following Jesus with his life. Peter is in stark contrast to the rich young man who was troubled by what he had The reason is that his gaze is fixed on Jesus. Perhaps we are still interested in the fish that Peter threw away while listening to Peter's story? We need to check where our mind's gaze is directed.
