make your parents happy
Proverbs 23:22-26
Today, churches around the world observe Mother's Day as Mother's Day, and the origin of Mother's Day is in 1910 when Mrs. Anna M. It started with a wife named .Jarvis).
One Sunday when Ms. Jarvis taught students the fifth commandment, “I hope that I will be one of you who can express your gratitude for the love of a mother” was realized by his daughter Anna Girl and the origin of Mother's Day. This has been On the day Anna Jarvis passed away, in May of the following year, to the guests who came to attend Ms. Jarvis' 1st anniversary service, his daughter hung a white carnation flower on each chest as a reminder of her mother's love. The origin of Mother's Day was that department store king John Warner Maker (1836-1922) set Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May every year to commemorate the philanthropy of the mother and daughter Jarvis, and comforted the elderly mothers of his company and held a feast. After that, this myth spread to all churches in the United States, and churches across the country observed the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.
Also, in Korea, May 8 was designated and kept as Mother's Day, but in 1973, due to the protests of fathers, it was observed as "Mother's Day". On this day, children put carnations on their parents' hearts. Those with parents wore red carnations, and those without parents wore white carnations. It has now become a custom to give thanks to the parents. In this way, in our Christianity, the second Sunday in May is observed as “Mother's Day”.
I always stand here with a sinful heart when I try to preach on Mother's Day. I am trying to preach a sermon without being able to serve my mother well, so I am speaking with a repentant heart.
On May 8 last year, I saw in the newspaper Min Jung-ki (72 years old), who was awarded the National Medal of Merit on the 34th Mother's Day for filial piety to his 104-year-old father for more than 40 years. I really think you are a wonderful person. I once again lowered my head in the hearts of my children who couldn't do the things they ought to do.
On this meaningful Mother's Day, as we look back on our past days, we repent of all the things that made us feel sorry for our parents without being filial to them. And as the words in today's text are, from now on, we must become filial piety to our parents and make them more enjoyable.
It is said that Niagara Falls is a place where Koreans living in the United States send a lot of filial piety to their elderly parents. There are many good places in America, but when I asked why it was Niagara Falls, my parents told me to stay young. They say, “Why do you get younger when you go to Niagara Falls?” When you go to Niagara Falls, you say, ‘Go, go, go away,’ and you will become 10 years younger. Of course, this is a joke, but children want their parents to live young and healthy. Then I will tell you the secret to making your parents happy through the text of the Bible.
一. We must obey our parents (verse 22).
“You must obey your father,” he said. I was told to obey my parents. Children are happy to listen to their parents.
When I see my children after a long time, my parents say the word, but they do it without a break.
When I turn on the recorder switch, it repeats the same thing. “You say that again.” Don't listen to annoying noises. “If you don’t know, just be quiet.” My parents are telling me not to give me a pint and not bully me. You should receive it by saying, “I know that this is what my parents are saying for me as a child. It's all about listening to what you've been told. That's what makes parents happy. If you match the rhythm to your mother's words, you will be more excited. Then you will release the han.
Your mother's story is your story. Even if their parents are not good enough and they are weak, it is the feeling of parents that they want their children to grow up as wonderfully and well as they do. If we don't listen to our parents like this, who in the world should we listen to? Parents want their children to do well.
Jesus also said in Matthew 7:9 and below, “Who among you whose son asks for bread will give him a stone, or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a snake? Will not the Lord give good things to those who ask?”
Solomon, who wrote today's text, also listened to his father David's lifelong wish to build a temple, and obeyed, built a holy and glorious temple in Jerusalem and dedicated it to God. Filial piety begets filial piety.
二. Old parents should not be despised (v. 22b)
“You shall not despise your old mother,” he said. When we are young, we think that there is no one in the world as good as our parents. However, as you get older and your parents get older, there is a tendency to ignore them.
So, in today's text, Solomon said, "Your old mother." “Do not ignore or despise your parents because they are old.”
This was about 100 years ago. A very poor widow lived in a small town in America, raising a young child. They farmed the foothills of the mountain, raised chickens, and raised chickens. At night, she worked hard to raise her one and only son without a husband while sewing. The son also studied hard with the heart of repaying his mother's kindness. I graduated from high school. I proudly graduated first among hundreds of students. They are required to give graduation speeches on behalf of graduating graduates. You will also receive a gold medal from the principal on behalf of the president. But the mother had nothing to wear to attend her proud son's glorious graduation ceremony. After thinking about it, he said to his son:
“Son, I should be attending your graduation ceremony, but suddenly I have an urgent matter. So I was forced to attend your graduation ceremony. I'm sorry," he said. Hearing the sound, my son cried and hung up.
"no. A graduation ceremony without a mother is meaningless. A gold medal without my mother is of no use to me. Mother, please attend. If he doesn't attend, I won't go to the graduation ceremony either.” So his mother had no choice but to attend the graduation ceremony. However, because of his shabby clothes and charred appearance, he deliberately hid behind a pillar so as not to be seen by people, because he was afraid that even one of his sons would feel ashamed. My son finally went up to the stage. He gave a wonderful graduation speech. And on that neck, a glorious gold medal was hung. At that moment, my son jumped off the podium. And I ran to the pillar where my mother was hiding. Then he took off the gold medal hanging from his neck and hung it around his mother's neck. said while crying.
“Thank you, mother. How could I be where I am today if I hadn’t sacrificed myself?” All the balls went to my mother. This is President Wilson, the 28th President of the United States.
As I said in the introduction, in 1914, during his tenure in office, the US National Assembly designated the second Sunday of May as Mother's Day and kept it nationally. I must become a child who can cherish and be proud of the past of my parents who worked hard for me.
three. We must live a life that does not disappoint the expectations of our parents (verses 23-24).
“Buy and sell the truth, but also wisdom, instruction, and understanding. It means to be zealous to learn the truth. “Wisdom, instruction, and understanding should also be the case” means to please your parents by living a good life so as not to go against their expectations.
During the reign of King Sukjong, there was a mother who lost her husband early in Seoul and was raising two sons. Having a hard time making a living, he made money while sewing at someone else's house and taught his son, Brother Hakseong.
It was raining one day, and I heard a metallic sound from where the raindrops were falling. Wondering, I looked around and found a large sack full of silver. Hak-seong's mother, startled, thought about it for a long time and then buried it more firmly than before. After this happened, my mother asked my brother to sell the house quickly. And as a result of buying a new small house and making a living by sewing as before, Hak Sung-je became a wonderful person.
One year, Hak-seong's mother invited her brother and called her two sons to tell the story of how she had buried a silver kiln in her old house. Hak-seong's mother said to her brother who was surprised and asked the reason, "If you get great wealth without any effort, there will be unforeseen disasters. If it is easy to eat and dress when you are young, you will not put effort into your studies, and you will know that life is precious only when you know what you are in need and suffer.” Hearing this, the brother and the two sons were deeply moved, and the two sons said that they were proud of their mother, who lived a true and beautiful life despite countless hardships and lived a better life. You can make your parents happy and happy when you live by your mother's teachings and not go against your mother's expectations.
Conclusion Dear brothers and sisters, we were born on this earth by the Creator through our parents. No child is born without parents. I hope you enjoy the blessings of God by making your parents happy.
(1) Please obey your parents. (2) Please don't belittle your parents.
(3) Please do not disappoint your parents.
