Title: Man's Outflow (Leviticus 15:1-18)
Contents Starting today, we will share the words of Leviticus again.
In today's text, the words about men's leaks and setting are recorded.
In verse 2, it says, "If anyone has an oily discharge on his body...", the modern Bible translates this part as "if something like pus flows out of a man's genitals...". The modern language Bible and the standard New Translation Bible have translated the text a little easier.
Men's leaks are, in large part, linked to immoral sexual practices and inappropriate sexual contact. As a result, if you get a sexually transmitted disease such as gonorrhea, pus or blood will come out of the men's genitals, and this is exactly what the text says. A person with such a leak was, of course, considered unclean, and the person or thing he came in contact with was also considered unclean. So they had to wash their clothes, wash themselves with water, and remain unclean until evening. The man with the leak, even though his body had been cleansed, could only be cleansed by waiting another seven days, and then on the eighth day, by bringing two turtledoves or two young pigeons and offering a sin offering and a burnt offering.
There are two cases of setting (泄精), one is when semen flows out of a man's body without sexual activity, like a dreaming dream, and the other is when semen flows out of a man's body after a man and a woman lie in bed. The Bible says both cases are unclean. In this case, too, the whole body had to be washed with water, and if it got on clothes, they had to be washed thoroughly.
