man and woman
1 Timothy 2:8-15
1. The posture of prayer (8)
end. pray without anger
Those who pray should not have anger. Anger here refers to an angry heart.
To pray without anger and without anger means to pray with a forgiving heart.
Prayers that come up before God and prayers that are answered must forgive everyone and everything.
Because the forgiveness of man and the forgiveness of God are inextricably linked like two sides of the same coin.
[Mt 18:35] My heavenly Father will do the same to you, unless you forgive your brother in the same way (Mt 6:15).
I. pray without contention
The word "without contention" refers to contention, which means that an argument, such as an argument or malicious argument, interferes with prayer. This stems from doubts, which stem from not trusting in God and not trusting other people, leading to doubts and quarrels.
Since prayer is entering into God's grace and being embraced, those who pray must believe in God's grace. Since the result of grace is peace, we must believe that peace is real. When we pray with this kind of faith, answers can be experienced.
All. raise your holy hands and pray
The hand is an instrument of prayer and at the same time an instrument of life. How much work is done by hand! Therefore, to pray with holy hands is to pray with a holy life. We must pray with a heart that fears God.
A bible verse to help you know what a holy hand is!
[Isa 1:15] When you spread out your hands, I will cover your eyes, and though you pray a lot, I will not hear you; for your hands are full of blood.
2. The head of the saints
end. Wear small clothes adorned with modesty and fidelity (9)
Small clothes mean 'suitable clothes'. Clothing with a sense of fashion.
Refraining from going beyond the limits of etiquette is a polite attitude
‘Fidelity’ refers to the soundness of the heart, and it means to dress sensibly.
In other words, dress well, be polite, and refrain from clothes that arouse envy in others.
I. About the use of accessories (9-10)
rather than adorned with braids, gold, pearls,
(10) Do it only with good deeds.
1 Peter 3:3-4
(3) Your adornment should not be in appearance with your hair adorned, wearing gold, or wearing beautiful clothes.
(4) But let the hidden person be incorruptible in a meek and stable spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
3. Men and women
The gender distinction between men and women in the Bible applies when they are related to each other, but
Otherwise, it should be regarded as a generic name. In other words, the modern interpretation of the Bible is that it does not distinguish between men and women.
A typical example of relational gender titles is husband and wife.
[Colossians 3:18] Wives, submit to your husbands, for this is fitting in the Lord.
[Colossians 3:19] Husbands, love your wives and do not trouble them.
Ephesians 5 and 1 Peter 3 are the same examples,
However, it is the correct interpretation of the Bible considering the reflection of the times to not distinguish between men and women in other usage cases.
For example, in today's text
I am not saying that only men should pray like this,
I am not saying that only women should dress up like this.
(11) A woman should learn quietly with all obedience.
(12) I do not permit a woman to teach or to have dominion over a man, but be quiet.
This applies to both men and women.
Faith is learning. Learning from Jesus Christ is faith.
Not having a teaching attitude is an example of faith.
[1 Peter 5:3] Do not be arrogant to those entrusted to you, but be an example to the flock.
The words after verse 13 should be seen as reflecting the situation of the times.
If this is grounded in sexism, Christian ethics will go back thousands of years.
The truth the Bible teaches is that everyone is a sinner. (Romans 3)
It is meaningless to debate among those sinners who is more sinful, and who sinned first.
Does verse 15 refer to the salvation of women? no! It is necessary to broaden our interpretation of the phrase that we obtain salvation through childbirth.
(15) But if women remain in faith, love, and holiness with chastity, they will be saved through childbirth.
The pain of childbirth - It is natural to be in childbirth. However, it is an era in which both men and women have to share the pain of raising children.
In addition, the whole church must share the pain in raising spiritual children in the church - receiving and raising new family members.
That is the way to salvation.
When a new life is born, everything changes. That is how life is nurtured. Parents can bear the toil and inconvenience well. The future of man lies in his life.
So is the church. It should be a church that bears the toil, inconvenience, and expense for the new family.
