Bible Text: Romans 8:5-11
man of christ
(Romans 8:5-11)
The Bible describes the person of Christ in this way. “You are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s” (1 Corinthians 3:23).
A person who has the Spirit of Christ.
Christ means “Anointed One” and is an honorific title for the only king of mankind. It is a translation of the Hebrew word messiah. In Judea, the king is anointed with oil at the coronation ceremony. Christ is the title, and Jesus is the title. The meaning of Christ's man can be glimpsed in the phrase "Christ is the anointed one." A person of Christ must have the Spirit of Christ. Just as it is said that a person without a fan mark is not Whal Myung Soo, if you do not have the Spirit of Christ, you are not a person of Christ. “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ” (verse 9). The Spirit of Christ here is the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was anointed to be the Christ. “The Spirit of the Lord has come upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, and has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and restoration of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. that he might do it” (Luke 4:18-19).
You cannot rule as a king without being anointed. Without the Spirit of Christ, we cannot act as a person of Christ. A prerequisite to being a man of Christ is to receive his Spirit.
What does it mean to pretend to be a man of Christ? Jesus pretending to be the Messiah “received the Holy Spirit” to preach liberty to the captives, restoration of sight to the blind, liberty to the oppressed, grace to harm.
In order for us to be able to pretend to be Christ's men, we must receive His Spirit. You must receive His Spirit to be free from sin. “Oh it is gone. like a bird in the hunter's snare.” Sin is a disease that leads to death. May the Spirit of Christ touch you to set you free from the captivity of sin. You need the touch of the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and see again.
When Saul, the persecutor of the church, was on his way to Damascus to arrest a Christian, he said, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Hearing these words, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting,” he fell blind. At that time, a disciple of the Lord named Ananias, who lived in Damascus, visited Saul and said, “Jesus, who appeared to you on the way, has sent me to see again and to be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he saw again” (Acts 9). :17-18).
What Saul saw again was the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit. Then Saul the persecutor turned into Paul the man of Christ. Whether you live or die for the Lord, you live for the Lord; whether you eat or not eat, you live for the Lord. He was imprisoned a lot, beaten countless times, and almost died several times. 40 was beaten with one rod, five times, spearheaded, stoned, shipwrecked three times, in danger in the wilderness, in danger in the sea, starving, cold and naked (2 Corinthians 11:23-27). May you receive the Spirit of Christ and become a person of Christ who lives for Christ.
A person who thinks about the things of the Spirit.
The man of Christ thinks about the things of the Spirit.
Tiger Woods, a golfer, has been watching golf since he was riding a stroller. It is said that his father watched golf while sitting in the stroller. When I grew up a little, I dragged a short golf club, and when I was 10 months old, I grabbed a short golf club and showed my first swing, and my parents were surprised to see it. Then, at the age of twenty-one, he became the youngest winner of the Masters Competition. The universe, who became the best star overnight, went to “Basketball King” Michael Jordan. I want to hear his advice.
We talked until dawn, and when we parted the next day, Jordan added one more important word. “Everyone sees you and is a golf genius. He's a person who only comes out in a hundred years." When you praise him, run to the practice range and focus on training." Michael Jordan is a person who practices while running and practicing basketball in his head while resting. Great players only think about it.
Successful people think only of what they do. What does not depart from Paul's heart and mind is the church he founded and the members of that church. “I give thanks to my God whenever I think of you, and whenever I do, I always pray for all of you with joy, because of your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, because the one who began a good work in you is Christ Jesus. We are sure that He will fulfill it to the day” (Philippians 1:3-6) The letter to Timothy also says that “I think of you without ceasing” (Philippians 1:3). Timothy and his ministry never depart from our thoughts.
Peter, who had left everything and followed Jesus, heard a shocking word from the Lord. “Get behind me, Satan, for you are a stumbling block to me; you do not think about the things of God, but the things of men” (Matthew 16:23). He said this because he heard that he was going to die on the cross and stopped him from saying no. The words of the most loyal disciple in human terms. God's work was for Jesus to carry the cross.
It is said that Satan entered Judas Iscariot's heart and put the idea of selling Jesus (John 13:2). The mind of the flesh is death, and the mind of the Spirit is life and peace. Spiritual thoughts are great thoughts, and great thoughts will lead to reality. Please do not give in to negative thoughts and become people of Christ with the mind of the Spirit.
A person who pleases God.
“Those who are in the flesh cannot please God (v. 8). The person of Christ must give pleasure to God. If you want to please your husband, you just have to be nice to your parents-in-law. No matter how good he is to him, no man is pleased with his wife who is wrong to his parents.
What must we do to please God?
First, if you worship with your body, you are happy. “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” (Romans 12:1). The body is important. I offer my body as a living sacrifice. A person of Christ must give his body to God. God requires our bodies. “No one who goes on a military service entangles himself with his life, so that he may please those who have recruited him…” (2 Timothy 2:4)
Second, you must believe in God. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him... You must believe that He lives and that He is the Rewarder. (Hebrews 11:6) A person who is always suspicious and negative cannot please Him. “My thoughts toward you are not calamity, but peace, saith the LORD, to give you hope for your future” (Jeremiah 29:11). There is no anxiety in faith and no fear in love. A life that we believe and hope for is the joy of God.
Third, he is a person who does not lose hope and does not give up. “Behold my servant whom I hold, my chosen one, with whom my heart rejoices; I have given him my Spirit, and he will bring justice to the Gentiles; Isaiah 42:1,4). Live vigorously with the power of the Holy Spirit that God has given you, establish justice, and pursue the truth. Anyone can live a bright and passionate life when they are filled with the Holy Spirit.
Fourth, you are a sincere and honest person. False lips are an abomination to God, and he who walks in truth is pleased with him (Proverbs 12:22). False lips are lips that lie. There is nothing so mean as a lie. As the Spanish proverb says, “If you deceive a liar, heaven will thank you. There is a saying. When looking at people, God does not look at the outward appearance, but at the heart. King Saul was good looking, but he was not a man of God. God's standard of judgment is the center. It is the heart where wisdom, justice, and righteousness are located. David was a man of honesty and justice (1 Kings 3:6). He was truly a man of God. Be a man of Christ by pleasing God.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the goodness of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9-10). ) We are the Lord's own people. We must be propagandists. What do you promote? We must proclaim the beautiful virtues of the One who brought us from darkness to light and from death to life. Doing business without advertising is like winking at a maiden in the dark. The church is a missionary through propaganda.
What is propaganda? It's about announcing what hasn't been announced. It is an additional declaration of the unknown. “Did you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not yours, but you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-) 20). Let's propagate by word of mouth, writing and body! It means evangelism.
A person of Christ is a person with the Spirit of Christ.
A person of Christ is a person who thinks about the things of the Spirit.
A person of Christ is a person who pleases God.
