Title: Man of Light

Content Title: Man of Light

Bible: Luke 11:33-36

Isaiah prophesied the Lord's work as a light shining in darkness. And furthermore, the Lord Himself used to speak of light or lamps as the subject of sermons more often than we think. In the Sermon on the Mount, he refers to us, his people, as the light. By using lamps as the subject of sermons, he has given serious warnings to those who hear the word and do not keep it.

First: Be a seer of light.

“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a shed or under a horse, but puts it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light” (verse 33). He says he can see the light. No one lights a lamp and puts it in a shed or under a horse, but puts it on a lampstand. The reason is that the light is turned on so that people can see it well, put it on a high place and illuminate the surroundings. Where there is light there is joy and happiness, but where there is darkness there is sin and fear. I hope that we all look to Jesus, who is the light, and live as children of light.

Second: Spiritual eyes must be strong.

“The lamp of your body is the eye. If your eye is good, your whole body will be bright; if it is bad, your body will also be dark” (verse 34). People in those days thought that the whole body received light through the eyes. I thought that the eyes transmit light to the whole body, just like a lamp illuminates a house. The eye is thought of as an organ that receives light from outside the body. The Lord speaks of the eyes as the lamp of the body. Therefore, a person with healthy eyes will see the world clearly. It is because our spiritual eyes must be opened so that our souls can be purified and illuminated with light.

Third: Examine yourself.

“Therefore see that the light that is within you is not dark” (verse 35). The Lord asks His hearers to examine Himself. I am telling them to look carefully to see if what they think is light is not darkness. For their condition, demanding another sign from heaven, eloquently demonstrates their blindness to the Lord of glory.

Fourth: Be the perfect light.

“If your whole body is bright and there is no darkness in it, it will be perfectly bright, as when the light of a lamp shines on you” (verse 36). There is peace and joy in the hearts of those who carry out the ministry the Lord has given them. When your heart toward God is pure and right, the light of the gospel of Christ will illuminate your heart and guide your life. It all depends on your heart attitude and attitude toward Jesus.
