Title: Marital Ethics (1 Peter 03:1-7)
Contents The church is established by the gathering of families, and the family begins when the couple unites. When the couple is at peace, the family is at peace; when the family is at peace, the church is also at peace.
1. Ethics for wives In verses 1-2, “Wives, in the same way submit to your husbands, so that even those who do not obey the way may be saved, not by word but by the deeds of their wives. Seeing is a clean deed.” In the church, there are families where the whole family believes, and there are many families who believe only the wife. Therefore, the believing family in the whole family should hope to enter into deeper grace, and at the same time, the believing wife of the family whose husband does not believe should set an example for her husband with good deeds so that they can believe in Jesus and sing hymns together and pray together. The joy of having the whole family go to church and worship together is unprecedented. Peter's instruction is focused on wives. We demand the beauty of obedience from wives and exhort husbands to treat their wives with dignity. I am holding Sarah as an example of such wives.
(2) By adorning well, in verses 3-5, “Do not adorn your hair, wear gold, or put on beautiful clothes, but let the hidden person be incorruptible of a meek and stable spirit, which is valuable in the sight of God. In the same way, holy women who had hoped in God adorned themselves in submission to their husbands.” Dressing up is necessary for both men and women, but it is even more necessary for women. There are two things that the leader does with the appearance and with the heart. In today's reading, we are told not to use the appearance of adorning our hair, wearing gold, and wearing beautiful clothes, but only to metaphorize the person who is hidden in the heart and do it with an incorruptible, stable spirit. When she adorns herself with meekness that is incorruptible in appearance and heart, stability and quietness without rebellion and struggle, and a heart of peace, this woman is a virtuous wife.
