Title: Mary's Consecration (John 12:1-8)
Contents Jesus went to Bethany before the Passover. Bethany is where Lazarus, who was raised from the dead, lives.
Mary and Martha made a feast of thanks to Jesus for raising Lazarus. Martha was busy preparing food and serving Jesus. Lazarus was talking happily with his disciples.
Then Mary went into her room, took an extremely expensive perfume, a pound of pure nad, an expensive perfume made from an Indian plant, poured it on Jesus' feet, and washed Jesus' feet with her hair.
The smell of perfumed oil became pervasive in the house. At this time, Judas Iscariot, one of the disciples who saw this, raised an objection. Why is this expensive perfumed oil not sold for 300 denarii and distributed to the poor? The Bible says .I don't think of the poor, but Jesus replies, "I am a thief, and he keeps the money box and steals what he puts in it. Leave me alone, he has prepared for the day of my burial. The poor will always be with you. and I will not always be.
Mary's devotion to pouring perfume on Jesus' feet is an example of the devotion of the saints who rejoice in the heart of Jesus.
1. Mary's devotion is a devotion that knows the grace she has received.
1) If you know that Jesus loved me, a sinner, you will never forget His grace. Mary was feeling deep gratitude for Jesus who loved a sinner like me.
2) Not only that, when Mary's brother Lazarus died, we could not forget the grace that brought Lazarus back to life from the grave, who had been dead for four days.
2. Mary's devotion is a devotion done with a voluntary heart. 1) Lazarus is busy talking with his disciples, and Martha is busy making food. Inspired by this, he washed the feet of Jesus while looking for the perfumed oil he loved and mossed.
2) If Mary asked Martha or Lazarus for forgiveness or permission, it would not have been granted, and if someone told him to pour perfume on Jesus, it would not be commendable. He showed his love for Jesus by pouring perfume on his feet and wiping them with the hair of his head.
3. Mary's devotion is the devotion to give the most precious thing.
1) Pure Nad Hangeun is a precious perfume oil. It is the best perfume oil from India. As for the price, according to Judas Iscariot, if the price is 300 denarii, or 300 days per person, the price is 5,6 now if the price is the sum of the monthly salary for one person for one year. That's a million-dollar price.
2) Not only does the price count, but the perfume oil is the best thing a virgin to prepare as a dowry, and it is the most precious thing to give to the groom when he gets married.
3) If Mary's family is not a wealthy family, a pure nad hangeun is not easily available, but she sacrificed it as the most precious thing because she loved Jesus.
4. Mary's devotion is a devotion that knows Jesus' suffering on the cross. It means that Mary listened and listened to Jesus the most. If you want to love Jesus, you must listen to him.
2) Worrying about the future of Jesus and pouring perfume on it while weeping is meaningful in that by loving Jesus, he was concerned about the future of Jesus rather than his own and prepared the things the Lord needed in advance.
5. Mary's dedication is misunderstood by humans, but praised by Jesus.
1) The only person who knows Mary's heart is Jesus. Neither her brother nor Martha knows. Mary's actions would be foolish.
2) I heard criticism from my disciple Judas Iscariot, and I protested to Jesus that it would be better if I sold the perfume and distributed it to the poor.
3) Because Mary loved Jesus, when she washed her feet with tears and poured perfume on her feet, she was not swayed by words of criticism or protest. If you love and dedicate yourself to Jesus, you can shoot arrows of condemnation from people. But if you please Jesus, there is no need to worry.
(Conclusion) Mary's devotion is as beautiful as a flower in the desert. It becomes an example and commemoration for those who love Jesus and please Jesus. Your devotion is also like Mary, knowing grace and voluntarily giving the most precious thing. May it be a devotion that makes the heart of Jesus rejoice.
