Title: Mary and Martha / Luke 10:38-42
Contents Mary and Martha / Luke 10:38-42
Key Verse: “Nevertheless, if only a few things, or even just one, is enough; for Mary has chosen the good part, and it will not be taken from her” (verse 42).
Today's text depicts a beautiful scene that can be compared with a scene from a drama. Jesus, who was working hard, visits the house of Martha and Mary, sisters of Lazarus. I can see her. Her zeal itself was very commendable.
However, as she was busy receiving such a precious guest, her sister Mary was nowhere to be seen. She finally asks Jesus to speak to such a 'ruthless' Mary to help her. Her request From the tone of the voice, you can see that he felt that his request was justified and that he was naturally expecting a positive response from Jesus.
However, Jesus breaks Martha's expectations and calls her by name twice to arouse her interest and point out her problems. It had nothing to do with herself. Rather, the problem was that she was too involved in the lives of others in her relationship with the Lord. In particular, Mary sat at the feet of the Lord whom she had chosen and listened to His words. It was even more so in the case of listening.
Today's sermon can be linked to Dr. Stephen Covey's book 'The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People'. Two of the seven habits he deals with are linked to today's sermon. The original title is 'effective') Not only does one habit of people clearly have a 'ultimate purpose and sense of purpose' in life, but another habit connected with it is that such consciousness makes the right decision at the crossroads of choices experienced every moment 'Priority in life' is inevitably related to the ultimate goal and purpose of life. As a matter of fact, we should ask each of us what kind of goal and purpose we have in life. Before the Lord Right before we go, I want to be able to look back on our lives and say, 'Yes, I have lived the way I wanted to live'.
Sometimes we live in this busy world, just running around (sometimes justifying our busyness as serving the Lord) and changing our priorities in life. But today's Word is for all of us, a meditation before the Lord. It teaches us that we need a time of true sabbath taking time. This time with the Lord should take priority over any other time, because for every Christian the ultimate purpose and goal of life has to do with Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray for this day's life. Don't let it be a time-consuming life, but help me to live a life that is worthwhile and worthy in the Lord's sight. Set your priorities in your life and faithfully do what you have entrusted to you. and make it a day that bears precious fruit. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
