Sermons for Preaching

Title: Mary, mother of Jesus

Contents

Today is the first Sunday of the four weeks before Christmas. Advent is known in the church calendar as Advent, and most Western European families set up a round ornament of fir or pine and start this week by lighting a red candle in one of the four corners to await the coming of Christ. In Europe, from this point on, all Christmas decorations are used to drive people into the Christmas mood. The atmosphere of calmly looking back on oneself while preparing for the coming of Christ seems to be different from the atmosphere of our society these days. As the presidential election approaches on the 18th, our hearts are filled with anxiety instead of peace due to the bankruptcy of companies saying that it is a financial crisis and a 30% cost reduction. These days, students graduating from school are having a hard time finding a job, so they feel the responsibility of adults in teaching students. It is clear that we have been living in a bubble, losing our fractions and being too extravagant. Now that we have cleared our upbeat and frantic attitude, we must all organize ourselves and our surroundings and prepare to receive Christ into our hearts.

It is clear here that the virgin birth is not a prerequisite or evidence for the confession of Jesus as the Christ and the Son of God. Rather, it is the fact that Jesus is the Christ and that He is the Son of God first. And it is the virgin birth theory that emphasizes and supports this. Mark, Paul, and John could confess Jesus as the Christ and the Son of God without the virgin birth story. The heart of the Jesus event is not in the virgin birth, as in the events of the cross and resurrection. In this sense, I don't think there's much point in fighting over whether the virgin birth is historically verifiable or scientific. This is because Christians who believe in the work of God and believe in the event of the resurrection become the content of faith that can confess the virgin birth of Jesus as well. In this sense, I think Protestantism is right. Without faith in Jesus there is no Mary, and without Christology there is no Maria.

The Lord has done mighty things with his arm, and has scattered the proud in heart.

He took the kings out of their thrones and exalted the lowly ones.

Let the hungry be satisfied with good things

The rich went away empty-handed (Luke 1:51-53)

Now, we can see Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a silent and humble woman, as well as a woman who actively participated in the work of God's Holy Spirit. Like Miriam in Exodus, the true image of Mary who was always with Jesus at the scene of the suffering of the poor. will have to be rediscovered and developed.
