Ingredients of Thanksgiving / Luke 7:36-50
Kim Jang-cheol has arrived. Of course, these days, there are house cultivation, refrigerators, and kimchi refrigerators, so we don't make as much kimchi as before, but kimjang is one of the beautiful customs as a traditional Korean food tradition.
When making kimchi, the ingredients are varied. Each region has different ingredients, and each type of kimchi has different ingredients, so there are a lot of them. When making kimchi, when you pickle cabbage, drain the water, and add the kimchi stuffed with various ingredients and seasonings, your mouth watering. If you add fresh oysters to it, the taste is excellent. It tastes even better with a variety of good quality ingredients.
Just as kimchi is delicious when made with various ingredients of good quality, thanks to God is simply “thank you” in words. Wouldn't it be more pleasing to God, who receives thanks, not only by giving thanks in an envelope, but also when giving thanks using quality and various materials? In other words, isn't it the proper way of a saint who has received grace to give thanks, which is delicious and pleasing to God?
Then, what kind of ingredients can be used to create a delicious thanksgiving that is pleasing to God?
In the Bible, many people receive God's grace and give thanks in various ways. Among them, the one who gave thanks the most is "a woman" in the text, and the text introduces him to "a woman who sinned in that town." “I have” (37), so I do not know what her name is or what she is doing. In verse 39, the Pharisee who invited Jesus said to himself, “If this man (Jesus) is a prophet, who is this woman who is touching him, and what Now, you must have known that I was a sinner." Judging by the fact that she was a prostitute, it is highly probable that she was a prostitute. At that time, the official sinners that Jews spoke of were publicans, prostitutes, and lepers, so this woman is most likely a prostitute.
However, this woman was invited to a Pharisee's house and came to Jesus, who was sitting there, without prior notice, and she wept at Jesus' feet.
Why are you crying? What makes you cry? Who will tease you and cry? Do you cry because your condition is miserable? Do you want to get married and cry? no. She cries with gratitude. Everyone points at them because they are sinners, curses them for being a cursed human being, and sells and eats their bodies even if they think they are. But doesn't it say that Jesus forgives his sins? Rather, isn't it said that tax collectors and prostitutes enter the kingdom of God first? She never thought that her sins were forgiven by God, and she lived her life almost desperately. Does not Jesus, as the Son of God, forgive sins and become a people in the eternal kingdom of God? How grateful are you? How happy are you? How good are you? He thanked Jesus. how? Thank you for the best quality and various materials. Let's take a look at the materials and methods we use to be grateful.
1. Wet Jesus' feet with tears.
Those tears were tears of thanks, and they wet Jesus' dusty feet to wash them away. Ordinary people give water to wash their feet, but this woman wets her feet with tears instead of water, so how can her tears compare with water?
2. Wipe Jesus' feet with your hair.
As always, a woman's hair is very precious to a woman. When we were in elementary school, when we were arguing with a girl and pulling her hair, that girl would attack with almost superhuman strength. By the way, washing your feet, which is said to be the dirtiest thing to a person, with that precious hair, is to show the greatest respect. How can the value compare to washing by hand?
3. Kiss the feet.
Mouth kisses the mouth, the cheeks. Who kisses stinky feet? But this woman knew that the one who forgave her sins deserved the greatest respect. Even John the Baptist said, "I am not even worthy to untie his shoelaces," and this woman is higher than that of Celebrity John.
4. He poured perfume.
At that time, perfumes carried by women were very expensive. It is so precious and valuable that women usually regard it as number one on their property list. And the perfume oil is dropped one drop at a time, and even if it is dropped one drop, the scent is not very good, right? But one drop is too little to thank for the grace. I poured it all out, all, not even a drop left.
Thank you so much, I gave you all the most precious thing. I poured it out with joy, and if there was more, I would have poured it out.
The contents of the woman's gratitude that we have looked at so far were various materials and the best quality, and by looking at the materials and quality, you can see whether his gratitude was a heartfelt thanks and is truly grateful.
Tears are her heart. Hair is the most precious part of her body. Lips are her love. Perfume was her property.
You can guess how much Jesus rejoiced when he was given thanks from the words he said to Simon.
Jesus said to Simon, "Simon! I have something to tell you." "Tell me yes" "I have a debt, one owes 25 million won (500 denarii), and the other owes 2.5 million won (50 denarii). Would you love me more?" “Of course, he is the one who has received much forgiveness.” “Yes, your judgment is right.” Then he looked at Simon again and said, “Are you seeing this woman? When I came into your house, you didn’t even give me water to wash my feet, but she didn’t give me water to wash my feet. You wet my feet with your tears, you wiped them with your hair, and you did not kiss me, but he did not stop kissing my feet from the moment I came in. You did not pour olive oil on my head, but he poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I say, his many sins are forgiven. For he loves much. The one whose forgiveness is little loves little." As the one whose sins were forgiven, we were truly thankful to Jesus for forgiveness. Others looked at it with strange eyes, but Jesus was very satisfied.
Dear saints, let's take a closer look at the words of Jesus, "He who is forgiven little loves little."
Would our sins be forgiven less? So it's only natural to love less! Can I thank you a little bit?
My sins were big enough to kill Jesus on the cross, but is that a small sin? If such sins were forgiven free of charge, would it have been forgiven less?
What are the ingredients for giving thanks to God on Thanksgiving Day? How many thousands of dollars are you going to end up with? Aren't you willing to wet Jesus' feet with my tears, loosen my hair and wipe Jesus' feet, and kiss them? And aren't you willing to pour out your most precious thing at once? I'm sorry Is there no choice but to do so because I received less forgiveness?
I hope that you will become saints who thank God for good quality and various types. This is the meaning of keeping Thanksgiving. Even if we do this kind of gratitude in our lifetime, it is insufficient compared to the grace we have received.
