Title: Matthew 25:1~13 Fools and the wise
Matthew 25:1~13 The foolish and the wise Subject: 43. Second Coming. 2012. 7. 22.
◎ Introduction
: This parable is a dramatic depiction of what must happen to all believers when Jesus returns.
※ Jewish wedding feasts are held for a week in the house where the couple live together.
The groom may come to the house at any time during the period.
When he came, he always had one person in front of him and shouted, “Behold, the bridegroom!” At this time, everyone got up and prepared to meet the bridegroom.
※ At Jewish wedding banquets, the bride brought ten virgins in advance, and when the bridegroom came, he had to go out to meet him.
In preparation for the bridegroom's coming at night, the virgins prepare their lamps in advance and light the way for the bridegroom to come.
※ This is also the image of the second coming of Jesus Christ.
1. The parable of heaven. (1~4)
※ Throughout the Bible, this parable shows three symbols.
① Christ is portrayed as the Bridegroom.
② Believers and the church are portrayed as the bride of Christ.
③ The Second Coming of the Lord is described as a grand wedding feast.
※ The word “at that time” refers to the time when the Lord will come again (the Second Coming).
※ It shows the things that must happen at the Second Coming. (4 steps through human history)
① In the present, the spiritual kingdom of God is (now, here).
* The present present is God's control, dominion, and authority revealed in the lives of believers.
② The kingdom of God in the present generation is confession.
③ There will be a millennium kingdom in the future.
④ In the future, there will be a perfect kingdom of God in a new heaven and a new earth.
※ Both the wise and the foolish participate in the wedding feast.
1) The ten virgins took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. (1~2)
※ The ten virgins are all believers who profess their faith, and the back is life or testimony.
※ All believers who profess their faith will go out to meet the Lord.
* Five of them will be wise, the rest will be foolish.
2) Fools had lamps (life) but not oil (righteousness). (2-4)
※ Their lives (etc.) did not have any other righteousness (oil) other than themselves and their own righteousness (oil).
* This is because they did not receive the supply of the Holy Spirit.
※ The five wise virgins prepared extra oil throughout their lives to meet the groom.
* That is, the Spirit of God supplies it. to prepare in righteousness.
2. Second Coming: There is a voice calling. (5~9)
※ “Because it was delayed,” there was a long wait and delay until the bridegroom came.
1) “Everyone slept” All the virgins slept and fell asleep. (5)
※ Shows the fact that the groom will be much later than expected.
* To many, the return of the Lord will seem much slower than they thought and learned.
※ All the virgins slept and fell asleep. It shows up in our lives as well.
① Because the body is weak, it is difficult to work consistently.
② The mind is not developed, so it is difficult to concentrate consistently.
③ Power is limited, so it is difficult to always push forward.
④ Because the spiritual state is young, it is difficult to always endure sacrifices.
⑤ Motivation is easy to be self-centered, so it is difficult to always act altruistically.
(Mark 13:35-37; John 4:35; Romans 13:11; 1 Corinthians 15:58; Col 3:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:6; 2 Timothy 1:6; Ecclesiastes 9:10)
2) “Behold, the bridegroom” is the voice of the guide (guide) calling out loudly. (6~9)
① The sound will be a totally unexpected surprise. (Coming like a thief in the night)
② The sound will be a loud cry.
③ Everyone got up and prepared their backs. (No one was lying on the bed)
④ Then the fools discovered a shocking fact. (The oil runs out and the fire goes out)
⑤ Even the wise did not prepare very well.
* When the bridegroom came, he had the oil (righteousness) to light the field (life) to light the way
* They could not afford to share their oil with other virgins.
(Luke 12:35-36; 1 Corinthians 15:34; Ephesians 5:14; 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6; Revelation 16:15; 19:7)
3. The Second Coming: The door will be closed to fools. (10-13)
1) He will come again and gather the wise. (10)
① “Because the groom is coming” has a strong meaning. Therefore, Christ must come.
② “Those who have prepared” enter the wedding feast with the bridegroom and the door closes.
2) The door will be closed to fools. (10-12)
① The door is closed. .
* To protect the wedding feast and prevent disturbers, the doors are closed when all the guests are ready.
② Fools will cry out to open the door.
* “Lord, Lord, open to us” It is already too late. Preparation is essential.
③ Foolish people will be rejected.
* The reason is that the bridegroom does not know them.
* When the bridegroom came, they were not ready.
* While the bridegroom was coming to the wedding banquet, he was not able to illuminate the road with his lamp.
