Title: Meaning of the Eucharist

Contents: Today, we would like to hold the sacrament service during worship. If you and I do not know the meaning of the Lord's Supper, or even if we do know it, if we ignore it, we will not be able to properly conduct the sacrament. From this perspective, we would like to examine today's text.

First, what is the meaning of the sacrament?

The meaning of the Lord's Supper is summed up primarily in the Lord's command: 1 Corinthians 11:23-24. “On the night the Lord Jesus was arrested, he took the bread, gave thanks, and broke it, saying, ‘This is my body for you; do this in remembrance of me. Remember me every time.” Here the Lord clearly commands twice “remember me.” Therefore, the Eucharist is a celebration of Christ.

In the Eucharist there is also the fellowship of believers who enjoy being one with the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 relates to the fellowship of believers through the Lord's Supper, "Isn't the cup of blessing we bless not sharing in the blood of Christ, and the bread we break is not sharing in the body of Christ? Since there is one loaf, we who are many are one body, are we not all partakers of the one loaf?” I am saying this. As such, the sacrament has two meanings. That is, it is a memorial in honor of Christ and fellowship enjoyed with the members of his body. The two meanings, the remembrance of Christ and the fellowship of the saints, are the focus of our celebration of the Eucharist.

Brothers and sisters, whenever we receive the sacrament, we must celebrate Christ.

First, we must commemorate the sacrificial death of Christ. The Lord took the bread and blessed it. And the Lord broke the bread. It means torn and torn. This broken bread reminds us of the body of the Lord that was torn on the cross for us. Also, the cup the Lord has is wine. In order for grapes to become wine, they must be crushed, crushed and crushed into powder. The glass of wine made through this process also reminds us of the blood of the Lord shed on the cross for us.

Brothers and sisters, as we partake of the Eucharist, let us remember the suffering Lord who died on the cross for us. See the crown of thorns on the Lord's broken head. I hope you will see the great spikes in the hands and ankles of the Lord. May you see the blood shed by the long spear that was pierced in the side of the Lord. May you see the face of suffering and disgrace of the Lord Jesus who died on the cross for us. May you see the suffering of the Lord who endured on the cross for us. I hope you will see the Son of God who took away the sins of the world and was crucified. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, suffered the wrath of God on the cross for me and for you. Through him we are saved from sin and the judgment of sin.

Second, we have the presence of the risen Christ. The Lord's Supper is the gathering of the Lord's table, eating the Lord's Supper, and having fellowship with the present Lord. There are four opinions about the nature of the Lord's presence in the Lord's Supper.

The catholic doctrine of transubstantiation is that bread and wine are essentially transformed into the body and blood of Christ. Lutheran communism asserts that bread and wine do not change, but that Christ is actually “with, in, and under” bread and wine. Zwingli's Memorialism opposes these two positions, arguing that bread and wine represent the spiritual truth of Christ's death.

Our Reformed view, like the Memorialism, rejects the physical presence of Christ. It asserts that Christ is personally present in the Eucharist through the Holy Spirit. In other words, in the Reformed view, the bread and wine of the Lord's Supper is more than a symbol of the Lord's death, and participation in the bread and wine by faith is a sharing in Christ's personal presence.

Brothers and sisters, in what manner should we conduct the sacrament service?

Saints, I want you to examine yourself before receiving the sacrament. Examine yourself and partake of the Lord's Supper so that you will not be judged by the Lord. Examine yourself and partake of the Lord's Supper so that you may receive the grace of the Lord abundantly.

How, then, should we examine ourselves? The meaning of the sacrament is important in our examination of ourselves. Because we must search our hearts with the meaning of the sacrament.

Saints, we are not worthy to partake of the sacrament. They were the objects of God's wrath and judgment. He was an enemy against God. was a sinner. Nevertheless, God, who is rich in grace, justified us by judging Jesus Christ on the cross for us. He saved us from judgment. If we partake of the Lord's Supper in commemoration of Christ, who accomplished our salvation through his death on the cross, and without gratitude and reverence for the Lord, we commit the mistake of eating and drinking the Lord's bread or cup improperly. Therefore, as we commemorate the cross of Christ, who saved us sinners, I hope you will participate with a grateful heart.

I hope you all understand this clearly. As we partake of the sacrament, we celebrate and celebrate the Lord's forgiveness and love. We thank and celebrate God's grace through the cross. It is a sin against the Lord to be unforgiving and unwilling to forgive other brothers and sisters in Christ. Therefore, before receiving the sacrament, ask yourself, “What kind of heart do you have toward other saints in Christ? You should look at it like this. Do you have hatred for another brother in your heart? Are you still unable to forgive and hate the person who hurt you? If we don't, God will punish us. Brethren, we must take these issues seriously. The church in Corinth was disciplined by God for this problem. Verse 30. “Therefore, many of you are weak and sick, and many are sleeping.” These words are a warning to us.

Brothers and sisters, we must examine ourselves as we partake of the Lord's Supper. When you discover these sins, you must confess them to the Lord. We must confess our anger. You must confess your hatred. You must confess your quarrel. Gossip must be confessed. You must confess false evidence. You must confess your jealousy. In 1 John 1:9, the Lord promised. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Based on the cross, the Lord promises forgiveness of sins.

Dear brothers and sisters, I hope that you will partake of the Lord's Supper with a repentant heart. I hope that you will participate in the Lord's Supper with a heart washed by the blood of the Lord. May you enjoy the abundant grace of the Lord by participating in the Lord's Supper with joy and thanksgiving.
