Title: Mercy and Mercy / Proverbs 11:17
Content Mercy and Merciless (Proverbs 11:17)
2000. 3. 15 Wednesday evening sermon (Rev. Dooman Jo)
God did not send Jesus because people demonstrated. God had mercy on people and sent Jesus to this earth. Looking at the sins of Adam and Eve, it is impossible to do so, but he made clothes of skin and clothed them. 50% is merciful because God made it, and 50% is merciless because the blood of Adam and Eve flows. Therefore, there is no such thing as 100% evil or 100% good. Compassion is latent in the heart of man. But the blood of Adam made him ruthless.
1. The ruthless reason
1) Being wicked (Proverbs 12:10)
Man is a creation of God, and mercy is all in his heart. But the wicked made his mercy evil, wrapped in sin, the offspring of Adam. But the wicked made his mercy evil, wrapped in sin, the offspring of Adam.
What color is the sky? What color is the mountain? What color is the sea? What color clothes do people who go to prison wear? it is blue This is called the color of religion, the color of mercy.
2) He shut up his ears and did not hear the cry of the poor (Proverbs 21:13)
This word is a negative expression of the word in Proverbs 19:17 (compare Matt 18:23-35, James 2:13). "The poor" refers to those who have become poor. If you despise the hungry, the hungry, and the naked, when you cry when you become poor, I will not listen to you.
2. Consequences of the ruthless
1) harming one's own body (Proverbs 11:17)
As the saying goes, 'A man is a man,' he who commits a violent act must be rewarded for what he has done. Joab was one of these kinds of people (1 Kings 2:5-6)
2) Cruelty (Proverbs 12:10)
Judas (Genesis 37:26-28), Nahash (1 Samuel 11:2), Pilate (Luke 23:16), and the Jews were also such people (John 19:31-32). He told me to invite the 'poor, blind and crippled people' to the party. Are you doing that?
3) When he calls out, no one hears him (Proverbs 21:13)
As it is in this world, and so will it in the age to come (Luke 16:19-31). Therefore, Jesus also said, 'People play the flute, but they do not dance, and they mourn but do not weep.'
3. Definition of mercy
1) To have compassion on the poor (Proverbs 19:17)
The good Samaritan rescued the robber (Luke 10:33). The priest, a Levite, passed by, but the neighbor of the robber was a Good Samaritan.
2) A forerunner (Proverbs 19:17)
Living according to God's original nature of creation. Think of the one who offered 5 barley loaves and 2 fish (Matthew 14:18). Without thinking about his hunger, the poor child offered his own food. The original word for "fish" means 'anchovy'. Imagine if that poor child ate by himself in that corner. Pretending to be, I'd just still be hungry. Therefore, Jesus also said, 'Unless you are like a child, no one will enter the kingdom of heaven.'
3) Taking care of the lives of livestock (Proverbs 42:10)
Jacob took a good look at the lives of animals. He did it above all for his own sake. See the case of Balaam in Numbers 22:28-32. The fourth commandment also includes the rest of animals (Deut. 5:14; 22:6-7; 25:4). Love for animals is by the commandment of God (Ex. 20:10; 23:4-5). Therefore, we must treat all creatures with mercy (Jon. 4:11). There is a saying, 'There is no one who can't handle livestock.' There is a saying, 'It was pitiful to shoot even a tiger.'
4. Consequences of mercy
1) Benefiting one's soul (Proverbs 11:17)
It means that not only those who receive the grace of the merciful receive welfare, but their souls who are merciful are also blessed by his merciful deeds (Psalm 41:1-4; Matt 5:7; 6:14-15, 25: 34, 2 Corinthians 9:6-14, Phil 4:17, Job 27:13-23). Blessings come to those who help others. Mercy is not wastage. God guarantees a harvest there. But people only know that it is waste.
2) Lending to the Lord (Proverbs 19:17)
3) Be rewarded according to your deeds (Proverbs 19:17)
It is found in the widow of Sarepta (1 Kings 17:16). If the widow of Sarepta had not treated her, she would have eaten it and died. That is why it is said in Proverbs, 'There are people who are poor even when they save too much, and there are people who have abundance even when they give too much.' Therefore, we must have compassion in our hearts, like God and like Jesus. As sons and daughters of God, mercy should be our instinct. do you still love it? Do you still know only me? Do you still neglect the poor person in your neighborhood? Let's think deeply. As I always say, 'If you eat garlic and burp, you smell garlic, and if you burp after eating kimchi, you will smell kimchi. Let's work hard to be compassionate. God will pay you back even with interest.
