Title: Millennial Kingdom
Revelation 20:1-6 ‘1. And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, with the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand, 2. He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years... 5. (The rest of the dead (they did not live until the thousand years were finished), which is the first resurrection;
6. Blessed and holy are those who have part in this first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with Christ for a thousand years.' - Amen.
In the 19th chapter of Revelation, when Jesus returns, he casts the beast and the false prophet alive into the lake of fire of brimstone. There are several views of the millennial kingdom.
1. Catch the dragon and put it into the abyss
In chapter 19, the antichrist, who ruled the world with the power of the dragon, and the false prophet who seduced the world with that spirit were caught, but here the dragon is taken right. In verse 2 of the main text, the dragon says, “The dragon was slain, the old serpent, the devil, and Satan…”. So, one of the archangels fell and was the Satan working in the old serpent that deceived Eve in the beginning.
They catch it and throw it into the abyss, and lock the door, which is the world of Hades where Satan is imprisoned. After being imprisoned for a thousand years, and in verse 3 of the main text, it says, ‘…after that, there must be a little release.’
Verse 5 says that while the dragon is locked in the abyss and the thousand years pass, the saints of God will reign with Christ for a thousand years, but unbelievers and unbelievers will not be resurrected even then.
Text Revelation 20:5 “(The rest of the dead did not live until the thousand years were finished) This is the first resurrection.”
The first resurrection is the resurrection of all saints. When the Lord comes, we must resurrect and receive Him, so as promised, both the dead and the living will be resurrected and changed. Verse 6 says, “…the second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Christ for a thousand years.” But how can we understand the word of kingship for a thousand years to be a correct interpretation of the Bible?
2. Millennial Kingdom
In the text, the scene of imprisoning and releasing the devil over a certain period of time and finally sending him to hell is produced. The important thing is that Revelation 19 is recorded as a series of events after the second coming of Jesus. A metaphorical interpretation raises a lot of questions as historical values ignore historicity.
1) Postmillennialism
It is the view that after 1000 years of earthly religions being Christianized, Jesus will return. But at the end of the day,
Matthew 24:12 “The love of many will grow cold, because iniquity abounds.”
Luke 18:8 He prophesied, “I tell you, he will avenge him quickly. But will he find faith on earth when the Son of Man comes?”
The Bible's prophecy about our experiences and the last days is not a positive world, but a world of sin to be punished, so it is a prophecy that He will come to judge. This is mainly the view of socialist theologians.
2) Amillennialism
The number 1000 is interpreted as the meaning of infinite time or the deadline of the New Testament era, and it is the view that when the Lord suddenly comes, we will enter the eternal kingdom of heaven. The basis for the interpretation of the Bible is 2 Peter 3:8, “Beloved, do not forget this one thing: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” However, the biblical interpretation must be in line with the flow of the text.
In order to answer the question of the day of the Lord's coming to the brothers living in the last days, Peter meant that God transcends the concept of time. Amillennialism is okay, but it lacks prophetic historicity.
This is a theory held mainly by conservative theologians, especially Calvinist theology.
3) epochal premillennialism
In premillennialism, there is epochal premillennialism and historical premillennialism.
The chronological premillennialism agrees with the saying that when Jesus returns, he will live on earth for a thousand years and then go back to heaven, but those who believe well in the great tribulation of the end will be raptured before the 7-year tribulation and have a feast in the air, but those who believe but lack faith They say that they will receive salvation through the merits of martyrdom, the second coming.
There is no universal truth of salvation, and the content of the public feast is not found in the Bible. Because of this claim, many heresies still prophesy and prepare for the rapture, but it is not a biblical lesson to wait for the second coming, but it is mysterious and creates anxiety.
4) Historical premillennialism
When Jesus comes, the saints will first be resurrected, renew the earth, and when they go to heaven again after living for a thousand years, they will leave this earth and take them to Shincheonshinji and enter the world. I follow historical premillennialism.
1) In verse 6 of the text, the period of one thousand years is expressed.
2) In verse 11 of this chapter, there is a saying that the present heaven and earth will pass away at the judgment of the white throne (Rev 21:1 says that a new heaven and a new earth will come down from heaven. Therefore, we can know that the Millennium Kingdom is not the next world but the earth can).
3) There is an order of resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15:23-24 ‘23. But each one in his own turn: first, Christ the firstfruits, then those who belong to Christ at his coming, 24 and after that, the last, when he will destroy all rule and all authority and power and present the kingdom to God the Father.
24. ‘After that it will be the last’ eita to; tevlo",...
In response to the question of refuting historical premillennialism, how do some resurrected saints and non-resurrected unbelievers coexist on earth? However, if you remember that Jesus was on the earth for 40 days after His resurrection, there would be no difficulty (Acts 1:3).
