Subject: The work of the Holy Spirit
Text: Joel 2:28-32, Acts 1:6-11
It is 'Sunday of Pentecost'. It is the day that corresponds to the Nativity of the Saint Jesus. During the 40 days from the resurrection to the ascension, the focus of Jesus' activity was discipleship training. It was a period in which he put more emphasis on discipleship than the latter half of his public life. The main content was to give His disciples faith in the resurrection and to prepare them for the beginning of the work of the Holy Spirit. All of these ministries were works of the Kingdom of God (Acts 1:1-3). The main concern of the disciples who confirmed the resurrection of Jesus was their dream, the restoration of Israel. This is what the New Testament text contains today. “When they were assembled, they inquired of Jesus and said, ‘Are you at this time that you are restoring Israel?’” (Acts 1:6). Jesus' answer to this question is something that should not be forgotten by all of Jesus' disciples as well as his people at the time.
“He said, ‘It is not for you to know the times or seasons, which the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth’” (Acts 1:7,8). This is the record of the Gospel of Mark. “But that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Mark 13:32). Despite these words, questions remain. What will be the meaning of God's side? Of course, it has to do with us. There are words of wisdom that come to mind. “This is what I have realized. God made man upright, but man has devised many schemes” (Ecclesiastes 7:29). There must be a meaning that has nothing to do with the words of the wise man. No more asking ‘why?’
These are the works of the Holy Spirit, who is the third person God. 1) The ministries of the world are the creation of the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:2; Job 33:4), the condemnation of the world's sins (John 16:8-11), the moving of a special leader's heart (2 Chronicles 36:22), etc. is. 2) The ministries related to Christ give birth (Luke 1:35), baptism with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16), guidance (Luke 4:1), filling (Luke 4:1), offering to God. God (Hebrews 9:14) and resurrection (Romans 1:4). 3) Bible-related ministries spoke through prophets (Acts 28:25), moved all scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16), and made them like a sharp sword with the Bible (2 Tim 3:16,17; :17; Hebrews 4:12) and so on. 4) The histories related to the saints are in control of almost all areas of the religious life. Regeneration (John 3:5), indwelling (Romans 8:11), baptism with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38-42), leading to truth (John 16:13), giving power (Acts 1:8), sanctification ( Romans 15:16), evidence of being children of God (Romans 8:16), comfort (John 14:16-18), joy (Romans 14:17), discernment (1 John 4:1-6), It makes us bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23).
5) Church-related ministries include baptism (1 Corinthians 12:13), filling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4), evangelism (Acts 8:29), comfort (Acts 9:31), and missionary dispatch (Acts 13:2-5). , overcoming conflicts (Acts 15:1-29), and holiness (Romans 15:16). The age in which we live is also called the 'Age of the Holy Spirit'. Just as we cannot think of creation without the Creator and salvation without the Savior, we must pay attention to the work of the Holy Spirit when we talk about our Christian life today. The Holy Spirit, who was sent from God at the request of the Savior to be with us to the end of the world (John 14:16), must not grieve (Ephesians 4:30) or quench it (1 Thessalonians 5: 19), we must always be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).
