Sermons for Preaching

Title: Mother-in-law

Contents

2006. 11. 15 (Wednesday) Bible: Psalm 84:9-12 Title: Mother-in-law

The text reflects the interests and wishes of the saved saints who have tasted the grace of Christ well. The psalmist confessed, “A day in the courts of the Lord is better than a thousand elsewhere; it is better to be a gatekeeper to my God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked” (verse 10). Just as a baby waits for its mother's bosom, regenerated believers have an instinct to long for God's grace and truth. Longing for God is also an important factor in the growth and maturity of the believer's faith.

1. We must long for God's grace.

“O God, look upon the face of your anointed” (verse 9), pleading for God’s favor. When God looks at the face of life, it implies that he “gives love and grace.” In this way, the psalmist wants God to always show love and concern for him. In the past, we too have lived in expectation of ‘power of life’, ‘material wealth’, or ‘human love’ rather than God’s grace. However, after tasting God's love and truth in Christ, it is the 'view of life' of the saints that cannot but long for that 'God's grace' as my true 'life'.

2. We must long for the Word of God.

We must remember that God is not only the ‘saviour’ of our saints in Christ, but also the ‘Father’ who protects and nurtures our saints who have saved them until they receive the ‘crown of eternal life’.

If we have been saved through the truth of Christ's atonement, we should also be guided by the 'words of Christ' in our life's footsteps.

3. We must long for the gifts of God.

From a sociological point of view, the confession, 'I prefer to be a gatekeeper to my God rather than the tent of the wicked' (verse 10), pursues a life of suffering as a missionary of the Church of God and the Kingdom of God rather than the social and cultural activities that non-believers enjoy. It is a confession to do.

That is why Paul said that he wanted to share not only the glory of Christ but also the sufferings of Christ (Philippians 3:10; Col 1:24).

It is difficult, but we can only be called “true and perfect saints” only when we can desire to bear Christ’s mission of redemption for mankind and suffering in our own body.

Because being ‘saved’ means becoming a ‘family’ of the community as one destiny with God.

Therefore, in order for the saints to carry out the mission of preaching the gospel entrusted to them as 'good soldiers of Christ' in the world, they must long for the greater gift of God (1 Corinthians 12:31).

It is because the work of the church is impossible to handle with my own strength.

You should only ask the Holy Spirit to clothe you with the spiritual gift of heaven.

4. You must long for a better hometown.

The Bible encourages the saints to live with “desire for a better practice” (Hebrews 11:16). The hope of eternal life can overcome the difficulties and despair of the saints in this temporal life. Also, the exhortation to 'desire for a better hometown' does not set the goal of the saints' life on the finite and temporary things of this earth, but only 'toward the goal, for the reward called from above.
