Title: My food/John 4:31-34
Content: My food/John 4:31-34
“In the meantime, the disciples begged and said, “… ” (John 4:31-34)
Word: When the disciples went to the village to buy food, Jesus was tired and sat by the well (verse 6). However, when the disciples came looking for food, Jesus, who was so tired, strangely overflows with vitality in his expressions and actions even after more time has passed. Even when the disciples encourage them to eat, Jesus smiles and says, “I have food that you do not know.” The disciples were puzzled and wondered who had brought them something to eat. Jesus spoke with the Samaritan woman about the water of life using water as a metaphor, but this time he talks about the bread of life with his disciples using food as a metaphor. However, the Samaritan woman and the disciples are all the same.
As the saying goes, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”, the Word of God is food. True thirst and hunger are thirst and hunger for God's work. Jesus fulfilled God's will through the work of saving the Samaritan woman, and as he was doing God's work, thirst and hunger were instantly forgotten. Even if you do not drink, you will feel full, and if you do not eat, you will be full. Perhaps the reward and joy made me forget the cravings of the flesh.
Jesus was so glad to save souls. For him, doing God's work itself was food. Not knowing this secret recipe, the disciples were puzzled. Jesus explained to them what the secret food was. Food is said to be doing the will and work of God. If the disciples had come from the village to evangelize, they would have been satisfied.
The woman needed Jesus to quench her thirst. But Jesus also needs a woman to quench his thirst. Jesus provided the woman with the bread of life. Conversely, a woman provided food for Jesus. In this way, Jesus and we need each other. Our relationship with God is not one-sided. Just as we need God, God needs us. You have to meet each other. They are the ones who provide water and food to Jesus, who is thirsty and hungry even though we look like this.
Doing God's work is really solving my thirst and hunger. There must be a thirst and hunger for God's work. Everything is in vain except to do God's will and do God's work perfectly.
