Title: My God, My God
Content This week is 'Passion Week' to commemorate Jesus' suffering and death on the cross. He was crucified at nine on Friday morning and spoke seven times in six hours until his death at three in the afternoon. The fourth verse is verse 46 that we read today. Let's read verse 46. “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani, which means, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
This cry of Jesus explains the extent of the suffering of the cross. As it is said in verse 45, from 12 noon to 3 p.m., the whole sky and the earth were dark. Why? All of God's creatures, even nature, could not lift up their faces when they saw the suffering of the Son of God. It was a moment when God the Father could not even see him, so he closed his eyes.
? Summarizing the sufferings of Jesus, there are three things.
1. Physical pain: ① I was dragged and beaten countless times. ② He was exhausted and wounded, carrying the cross, fell and fell. ③ Both hands and feet were hit with a hammer without mercy, and the wounds and blood were spilled ④ The pain in the head and the blood dripping down all over the face from the thorns coffin, which was stronger than the thorns, was pressed without mercy.
2. Mental suffering: curses, contempts, ridicules, slaps, blindfolds, boos, undressing, and spitting of the crowd of high priests, Roman soldiers, and people.
? The physical pain was great, but the mental pain was even greater.
3. Soul Suffering: The Father's Silence, Turning, and Abandonment.
? He can endure all kinds of pain, curses, contempt, and ridicule in the world. But his father's ignorance and abandonment was the greatest suffering he could bear. At this time the Lord cried out: “Eli Eli Lama Sabachthani” (My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?)
? Let's listen to one song of praise of the Lord's Passion.
“How sick were those hands and feet that were nailed to the cross/Jesus hung on the cross without sin
The sky, all the earth, and the vegetation all cry/ Even the sun loses its strength and shines all over the world
Ah, never ending, Your love is always
Ah, the river of salvation flows forever.”
? God saved us mankind by forsaking his only begotten Son.
Why? Jesus paid the penalty for our sins.
Ex) At this time, Jesus completed the ministry of the Azazel goat.
? Jesus suffered all the physical, mental, and spiritual sufferings and paid the full price for our sins.
? Let's read Ephesians 2:14, 16. The blocked grace and blessing of God burst and flowed. God's abundant love and life flowed out. We thank and praise this grace.
