Title: My Hymn (Luke 1:39-56)
After hearing the news that the baby Jesus is pregnant from the angel Gabriel, Mary goes to visit her relative Elizabeth. The reason for Mary's visit to Elizabeth was, of course, to celebrate Elizabeth's conception, but it must also be to confirm that if the impossible had actually happened, it would have been possible for her as well.
In any case, Mary went to visit Elizabeth, and on the spot she heard a bigger congratulations from Elizabeth.
"...And Elizabeth, being filled with the Holy Spirit, called with a loud voice, saying, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child in your womb" (verses 41-42).
After receiving special congratulations from Elizabeth, Mary is convinced that God's great grace has come to her and praises God. People call it 'Mary's Hymn'.
Mary sings in his hymn, "My soul praises the Lord, and my heart rejoices in God my Savior." Because he has done great things for me.”
Confessing herself as a lowly servant girl shows that Mary is a humble person. Even today, God's grace is given to the humble.
As Mary confessed, God did great things for her.
How could it not be such a big deal to be conceived of Jesus Christ, who is 'the one who will save his people from their sins' and 'the one who will inherit the throne of David'? This is not something that can be done just because you have the ability or the will to do it. It is a truly great thing that can only be done by the grace of God.
As we meditate on Mary's Hymn today, we should be able to think about ourselves.
As Mary confessed, weren't we also humble people?
Weren't we just hopeless sinners before God, who had little, no learning, and no ability? If it were not for the grace of God, how could we have called God our Father and worshiped God?
Nevertheless, how much do we thank and praise God?
Shouldn't we, like Mary, sing hymns to God?
Today, looking back on our humble lives, I hope that you and I can express our gratitude to the good God who has done and continues to do great things with “my hymn”.
