1 Kings 3:4 So the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice, for there was a great high place, and Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on the altar.
1 Kings 3:5 At Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, "Ask what I will give you.
1 Kings 3:6 Solomon said, "Your servant David my father walked with you before you in faithfulness, justice, and uprightness of heart, so you showed me great favor, and you also prepared this great grace for me today. You have given me a son to sit on my throne.
1 Kings 3:7 O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in the place of David, your father, but your servant is a little child, and does not know how to go in and out.
1 Kings 3:8 They are among the people whom you have chosen; for they are a great people, and they are too numerous to be counted or recorded.
1 Kings 3:9 Who can judge this great people of yours? Give your servant a wise heart to judge your people, to discern between good and evil.
1 Kings 3:10 And Solomon asked this, and the word met the Lord's heart.
When Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings, God asked what his wish was. This is the scene in which Solomon responds. Solomon's answer reveals three attitudes. It is important to always live with this attitude toward God's questions.
1) He confessed that it was the grace of God that he ascended to the throne.
2) He expressed his weakness.
3) I asked for wisdom for my mission.
1) There was a confession that it was God's grace to ascend to the throne.
1 Kings 3:6 Solomon said, "Your servant David my father walked with you before you in faithfulness, justice, and uprightness of heart, so you showed me great favor, and you also prepared this great grace for me today. You have given me a son to sit on my throne.
Grace, grace, great grace... Emphasizes the grace of God. To be humble is not to be humbled. Just being honest and standing before God can only make you humble.
'It is the grace of God that I have become what I am today.' - It is the cause of God's grace, not our ability.
It is not easy to humbly seek grace at the top.
Live in gratitude for God's grace? - It means a life in which someone shouts, 'Everything has a cause from God' through a person's words, actions, or the entire life of that person. It is because of God that there is power, and because of God, there is power.
Genesis 14 - Abraham rescues his nephew Lot.
Genesis 14:21 And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Send the people to me, and take the goods.
Genesis 14:23 I will not take any of yours, not even a thread or a pair of shoes, lest you say that I made Abram rich.
He refuses the spoils because he doesn't want to hear that the cause lies somewhere other than God.
Those who enter deeply into grace find the cause of the past, present, and future in God.
15:10 But it is by the grace of God that I am what I am, and his grace that was given to me was not in vain; I labored more than all the apostles, but it was not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
2) He confessed his weakness.
1 Kings 3:7 O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in the place of David, your father, but your servant is a little child, and does not know how to go in and out.
You need a figure that knows how to do a low crawling. Always start by voicing your weakness when starting out. Where's the tall guy at the start? You have to lower your posture to be able to use it powerfully.
A characteristic of those who fail is that they do not start off as weak. Always start with a sense of weakness. It is not that self-sufficiency is proven from the beginning.
ex) Wild beasts at the zoo - The more wild the animal, the more stupid it is The hawk walks like it's drowsy, and the tiger walks like it's sick. -> Even wild beasts wrap themselves up in weakness.
3) I sought wisdom for my mission.
'What is the purpose of God calling me into this world? Pray, “Give me strength to carry out that mission well.”
Pray based on the mission the Lord has given you. Isn't a mission the purpose of a person's existence?
1 Kings 3:8 They are among the people whom you have chosen; for they are a great people, and they are too numerous to be counted or recorded.
1 Kings 3:9 Who can judge this great people of yours? Give your servant a wise heart to judge your people, to discern between good and evil.
The meaning of the original Hebrew word for a wise heart- Listening heart -> Always having God's word by your side and listening to it.
