3. Mysterious Truth (2:8_15)
Verse 88: Beware lest anyone plunder you with philosophy and vain deceit***
Up until now, we have been encouraging people to live by solidifying their faith in Christ, and from this verse, they are warning against heresy.
In particular, without God, the philosophy is pointed out through human wisdom.
Human wisdom has no way of knowing God.
So, today's Western philosophy has finally fallen into a philosophy that shouts that God is dead.
And with the vain deceit made up of human wisdom, they plunder the souls and property of countless people and lead them on a path of no return.
Therefore, we must be vigilant in prayer and guard ourselves.
The term “vain deceit” refers to making false accusations of believing in Jesus and creating heresies and editorials to tempt people.
We must always be careful not to fall for philosophy and vain deception and be destroyed.
This is according to the traditions of men and the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ***
There are two reasons to be wary of human philosophy and vain deception.
The first is human inheritance.
This is because we forsake the word and commandments of God and follow the story handed down by humans.
Second - belong to this world
The science of this world is multi-elementary, and this is because it may be the best in teaching the worldly things, but it does not bring you to know Jesus Christ.
Verse 9: In him all the fullness of the divinity dwells bodily.
“Divinity” means the divinity of God, that is, the divinity of God. This verse speaks of the fullness of God's divinity in Jesus Christ. For that reason, if we believe in Jesus, we will be grafted into Jesus, and we will also be filled with the divine and receive the life of God.
Verse 10: In him you also are filled, who is the head of all principalities and powers.****
The divinity of God has been made available to all of us through Jesus Christ. It is the glory of the Christian to share in the fullness of God.
“Government and authority” means governing and power like the police or gang, and since Jesus said that he is the head of principality and authority, Jesus TT is above spiritual power and worldly power.
Verse 11: And in him you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, that is, the nakedness of the flesh, the circumcision of Christ.
Jewish people are circumcised on the eighth day after birth. This circumcision is the cutting of the sheep's skin to leave a mark of the chosen people. This was the true type of circumcision that Christians would receive in the future. However, the heretical ideology of the Colossian Church required circumcision as a condition of salvation even for Gentiles. As a result, quite a bit of confusion was caused in the Colossae Church.
Therefore, we must no longer be captivated by the rituals and formalities of the circumcision of the body.
Verse 12: In which you were buried with Christ in baptism, and were also raised together in him through faith in the work of God who raised him from the dead.
Baptism is just as the old man was buried with Christ and Jesus Christ was resurrected by the power of God, so burial with Christ and resurrection with Christ are only possible when we believe in the work and power of God.
Verse 13: And you who were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God raised up with him, and forgave us all our sins.
This verse explains the state before he participated in the resurrection of Christ in relation to the past of the reader. “Crime” means disobeying the will of God and walking in the path of sin.
“Uncircumcision of the flesh” refers to Gentiles who are not circumcised, and it means that they are not chosen as God’s chosen people. In this way, the new believers in Colossus were completely incapable of salvation because of their sins, but God forgave them with total grace and brought them back to life with Jesus Christ. Therefore, our salvation comes only through the grace of Jesus Christ.
Verse 14: He blotted out the handwriting of ceremonies that was against us and that was against us, and took it away and crucified him.
Here, the parable explains how to forgive the sins mentioned in verse 13. A “doubt written in question” is a memorandum signed directly by the debtor as a promise to pay the debt and was commonly used in society at that time.
That is, the Old Testament law is like a deed showing the debt of our sins. And this deed declares us guilty and even a terrible punishment. Furthermore, a conscience illuminated by the Holy Spirit is vindicated by God's righteousness. terribly complaining.
However, Jesus Christ paid off the debt for that sin on the cross and blotted it out. Here, “blotting out” means to rub off the ink written on a paper called papyrus before it dries.
In this way, Jesus Himself nailed our curses, sins, and punishments by dying on the cross. Now, the curse of the law due to sin cannot accuse us or exert any influence.
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, as it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree” (Galatians 3:13).
“Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes” (Romans 10:4).
Verse 15: Having stripped off principalities and powers, he revealed them clearly and triumphed through the cross.
This verse explains that God not only blots out the bitter deeds through the cross of Jesus Christ, but also disarms the forces of evil. He brought them disarmed and made them a spectacle for the Romans.
