Title: New Command
Text: Joshua 8:1-2
After the Achan incident, Joshua must have become very depressed. At that time, God appeared and spoke anew. We are beings who cannot live on bread alone.
In the world, there are those who claim that you can live with bread, and there are those who don't. Communism is the diagnosis that has made a revolutionary struggle believing that if only bread is solved, then this idea is wrong. For 100 years, this idea has been proven to be wrong. There are people who need it, and there are people who can live as long as there is something that satisfies them other than the body regardless of anything.
Sometimes it can be music, or it can be a variety of hobbies such as dancing, theater, hiking, etc. So, music is salvation for them, and dancing is salvation for mountain climbing. However, I don't know if such a thing can be a human hobby, but salvation cannot be obtained in the sight of God and fellowship with God will not be possible. God speaks to His people. After Achan's great event, God spoke to His people. This is not only speaking to the Israelites at the time Joshua led them, but to us who are living in a difficult way. In today's text, God commands four things. This is God's new command. Before doing anything new, we must listen to the new command of our God.
1. God's command is not to be afraid
Let's read verse 1
The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid...
We don't know if we are living because of what we are afraid of. There are two main types of people classified according to what they are afraid of. There are two types of people: those who fear God and those who fear the world. What should we, Jesus Christians, do among them?
1) We are people who know how to fear God.
If we fear God, the world is not afraid. Conversely, if you are afraid of the world, you will not listen to God. These events are mentioned in Acts chapters 3 and 4, which you are familiar with. Peter and John were going up to the temple to pray at 3 o'clock, and they met a blind man sitting at the beautiful gate of the temple. Only Jesus had no silver or gold to give to the lame begging man. Walk and run, in the name of Jesus
I did. This was discovered by the scribes and Pharisees. I called quietly and came up with a compromise. It was an almost threatening compromise. Do not tell or teach anyone at all in the name of Jesus. In other words, it was a request to stop missionary work. I recorded the reactions of Peter and John at that time. It is written in Acts 5:19
Peter and John answered and said, Judge whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God.
Who is your life in front of now?
Are you afraid of the world or what you will eat or what you will wear? Jesus said to me and you, do not be afraid of those who cannot kill on your own, but fear him who can destroy body and soul in hell. The Hebrew writer is quoting from Hebrews 13:6 to Psalm 56:4,11...Whether the Lord helps me, if I am not afraid, I must be afraid of transgression.
We cannot be clean. received the righteousness of Jesus. If not my righteousness, there must be an effort to preserve his.
No matter how much you think of Joseph as a person, he is handsome. Potiphar's wife tempts him to sleep with him. Then Joseph resists the temptation of the woman. Let's read Genesis 39:8. There is no one greater than me in this house, and even though the master has not withheld anything from me, the only thing he has forbidden is you, because you are his wife. Don't be shy and don't be ashamed of your words.
Now, children, abide in him, for when the Lord has revealed Himself (1 John 2:28), may you be saints who are not ashamed and have no fear.
2. Don't be surprised
The new command to Joshua is a message not to be surprised. Let's read verse 1 again.
The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid, do not be dismayed.... To be surprised is to be taken aback when unexpected things happen suddenly.
In the future, in countless cases in the work of Joshua and Joshua's army, the servant will take control of your family without notice.
Even if you visit, you will be surprised. However, let's consider God's intervention in two ways.
1) Intervene by ability.
He does amazing things by doing things that humans cannot do.
Jesus went into Capernaum, taught in the synagogue, and healed a man possessed by a demon. The Bible records the reactions of the people at that time.
Let's read Mark 1:22 and 27.
All were amazed at his teaching, because his teaching intervened with his authority. If the surprise continues, you will not be surprised.
God is still intervening in our lives. Let's read how we praise God for this and how grateful we are for that name.
When the virgin heard this, she was surprised and wondered what kind of greeting it was, and it is very natural for Mary, who is a virgin.
The angel who announced Jesus explains it with various logics, but I can't get a good answer.
Let's read verses 37 and 38. I hope that you will become such saints who are spiritually awake and lead a bold life of faith that is not surprised by everything.
3. God's new command is to go up as a child.
Let's read verse 1 of the text.
...Get up with all your soldiers and go up to Ai. God will never cover your mistakes, but you will start from where you failed. Jacob was reluctant to go up to Bel-El. Beel is a place where Jacob's faults and shame are tainted. He wanted to avoid it. But the place of failure and shame is the place to meet God.
The place where I meet God is a place of human weakness and shame. Where was the time and longevity that Peter met with the resurrected Jesus? He said Jesus was three, there are none righteous, not even one. Jesus
While refining your life, where would you like to see? Childhood? Are you a grown up Nazareth? Is it the Sea of Galilee, where he began his public life, or the splendid Garden of Resurrection? It's because you taste God's boundless love, where is your child?
Find the place you are ashamed and want to hide, and release it. God forgives, worship without repentance and apology. A dead worship service is a worship service that a child has missed or omitted.
4. The fourth command is to take it yourself.
Let's read verse 2.
You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, but the cause of your wrath there was because of the abduction of Achan.
Let's read verse 7:1 again.
The children of Israel sinned because of the sacrifices, because Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Shamdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah,
Had it been taken, there would have been no problems. Then, what is the difference between when Achan hid and now when the Lord gives orders? 1) God only accepts God's righteousness.
Do not misunderstand that our God, who created the heavenly nature and made all things in Him, lacks something. Psalm 50:9-15 says this.
I will not take bulls from your house or goats from your pens, for if I in the forest were hungry, I would not say to me that the world and its fullness are mine.
Rhoda, shall I eat the meat of bulls and drink the blood of goats? Do you offer sacrifices to God with thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High, and do you care for me in the day of trouble? How indifferent to God's miraculous events Are you casual or are you bold in God's intervention? The Lord blesses us in our places of shame and mistakes. God accepts only the righteousness of Jesus. Is everything you give to God? I hope you will take the time to ask yourself.
