Sermons for Preaching

Title: new me

Bible: Romans 8:12-17

─────────────────────

Over the past week, there have been many events that have made me personally think a lot. First, I was invited as a lecturer to a New Year's revival for elders and priests nationwide at Myungsung Church early in the morning on Tuesday. As I watched, I thought, 'This is the power of the Korean church.'

At the same time, the second person who was dropped from the Board of Audit and Inspection was my classmate and I personally sent a text message to ask for prayer.

What would you define yourself as? If people ask me, 'Who are you?', how do we answer? We usually introduce ourselves with a position where we work. But for that position, the years may pull me out of that position, and certain circumstances may make me no longer in that position.

Whether it is a famous player in a sport that many people are passionate about, a coach who trains them well, or a celebrity who drives tremendous popularity, the reality is that the fame disappears in an instant.

So, what the Apostle Paul is saying from Philippians 3:5 sounds very sincere. “What kind of person am I, a person who was circumcised at the age of eight days, a pure-blood Jew, a member of the tribe of Benjamin who produced Israel’s first king, and Gamaliel, who was religiously belonging to the Pharisees and taught me science. .” Apostle Paul's human condition was that he had a great history and career that no one could easily break. But he also says: “But I regard the knowledge of Jesus Christ as the noblest, and therefore all other human things as dung.”

How would you like to introduce yourself? When I introduce my human side, please remember that it cannot be forever. We must remember that the Apostle Paul does not introduce the finite, but the infinite.

It is a pity that many people are not so moved by the fact that they are children of God, but only to be moved by the fact that they become the president of a certain company. Again, I want you to remember that human positions don't last long.

The Israelites knew how precious it was to be a child of God. However, they see that they are worried that their rights will be violated because they have sinned as children of God. So, Genesis 17 repeats this fact several times, saying, “God has made me a child for an everlasting covenant.” That is why the Israelites practiced circumcision to leave a mark on their body that they were called children of God.

Because we become children of God, we are completely cut off from our human past. We have changed our status as God's holy people. Therefore, everything that God possesses is now ours. “I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8). :38-39)

And God made us new creatures. That's why it is clearly said in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."

Our outer man is getting old, but we believe that our thoughts will be new and hopeful every day in the work of the Holy Spirit, and we will become our inner man full of hope that glorifies God. Please believe that the work of the Holy Spirit fills us with new hope every day.

The next important thing is that since we are children of God, if God is for us, who can be against us? Jesus who died and rose from the dead and is at the right hand of God still defends us at the right hand of God, who can be against me? That is to say.

I believe that if we hold onto our new self as a child of God in 2011, we will be able to live boldly as a source of blessing in 2011 without worrying about it.
