Title: Not Born Again/John 3:1-8
Contents Nicodemus is the first person to have a personal conversation with Jesus in the Gospel of John. He was respected as a Jew. He was one of 70 council members of the Sanhedrin, the highest Jewish governing body. He was a man with a powerful voice who was respected by people for his character and fame. As a Pharisee, he grew up in a family of traditional beliefs. He was a teacher in Israel. As a rabbi of the people, he was a respected man with intelligence and culture.
One night, he visited Jesus personally. It may have come at night to avoid people's eyes. Or maybe it's just for quiet enough time to have a serious conversation. In our conversation with Jesus and Nicodemus, we see two different views of the fundamental problem of man.
Conversation between Nicodemus and Jesus
1. Nicodemus
1) Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who came from God.
- He recognized Jesus as a great teacher.
- He saw him as a teacher who came from God.
2) Here you can get a glimpse of his view of humanity.
- Humans can be improved through education.
- The problems of this world can be solved through good education.
- I thought maybe Jesus was such a great teacher.
2. Jesus
1) Jesus immediately stopped Nicodemus when he called him Teacher.
-Truly, truly, I say to you (Hear the important words)
- Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
- The fundamental problem of human beings is not to be solved by education, but to be born again.
2) Illustration: A tree bearing bitter fruit
- What would happen if we prune branches and fertilize them with care?
- The more you take care of it, the more bitter fruit it will bear.
- It can be more beautiful in appearance, but in reality there will be more bad fruits.
- In order to bear good fruit, the life of the tree must be corrected.
Likewise
- We need to change the life we have into a new life.
- You must not be born again.
- Nicodemus found a better way of teaching than the present.
- The Lord said that we must receive new life, not human improvement.
3. The difference between the world and the Bible
1) The views of the world
- Religions are almost the same or similar.
- Isn't it to do good?
2) The teachings of the Bible
- You have to get another life.
- must be reborn
- You must receive the life that comes down from heaven.
to be born again
1. To be born again
1) I am born of the Holy Spirit.
2) It is the life we receive through faith in the Lord.
3) This life is invisible and intangible, but it is an absolute existence.
2. Yehwa
1) How to tell the difference between a chick and a duckling
Just drive the chicks and ducklings to the stream. The ducklings go into the water and play happily. The chick moves away from the water's edge. Not because they were taught, but because of their life instinct.
2) Lessons from illustrations
I am not committing a crime because I went to a worldly criminal school. It is because of the nature of the human heart. It is a matter of what kind of life a person has in his heart. Those who do not have the life of Christ cannot do God's work no matter how much education they give.
Only by having the life of Christ can we know God and understand God. What is urgently needed is to be reborn. Christ did not come into this world to improve human education, but to give His life.
invitation
People's interest is in "how to do better on earth".
The Lord's concern is, "Are we going to enter the kingdom of God or not?"
We must be born again. You must receive the life that the Lord gives you.
How are you born again?
believing in the Lord Jesus.
