Title: Obey your parents (Colossians 3:18-24)
Christianity is a family religion. Everyone, when you open the Bible, the first thing that appears from Genesis 1 is the story of God creating the heavens and the earth and creating all things. See the last part of this creation story. This is the climax of the history of creation, when God creates a man and a woman and officiates them so that they meet and become a family. With that in mind, the creation story unfolds. When Jesus preached the gospel, the first place he visited after performing miracles was the wedding banquet house. The Bible testifies that the first miracle that Jesus performed was that two people met and made a family by visiting a wedding banquet house and blessing them. God blessed Abraham's family. And the doctrine of election is explained through the story of Abraham's family. This is the Bible.
The modern sorrow is that each person leaves home to find happiness and also to find joy and pleasure. Here is the problem. There is a problem with finding freedom in celibacy and happiness in indulgence. Freedom can be found in true love. Rather, it is Jongno that you should find happiness in serving and serving. However, by departing from this path, the world is getting more and more chaotic, and it is heading towards darkness. You need to know it.
Love is not a story about two people facing each other and meeting their needs through the other. Love consists in two thinking in one direction. Therefore, it should be known that the family cannot be assumed except for religious values and religious purposes. The home is the Father's kingdom. Mother's world. It is a children's paradise. Miraculously, the home is a place to live with the most effective balance of law and grace. There is order and freedom, where righteousness and love meet, and there is a balance between authority and peace.
The Bible teaches us. 'Obey your parents' and 'Honor your parents'--About your parents, it can be summed up in just two words. Respect is love. Upward love. It is love with respect. 'Respect' and obey'--The Bible teaches these two things. Look at Exodus 21:17. “Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.” That's a scary word. Look at Deuteronomy 21:18-21. This is a very famous saying. "If he does not obey his father or his mother, and his parents rebuke him, but he does not listen... All the people of that city shall stone him to death..." This is a very harsh statement.
Verse 18 of today's text says, "Wives, submit to your husbands." The Greek word for 'submission' here is 'hupotasso'. This refers to orderly obedience. It is the submission of a wife to her husband. In verse 20, we read, “Children, obey your parents in everything.” The word for 'obedience' here is 'hupacuo' in Greek. This is obedient obedience. It is obedient obedience. listening and following.
