Only Jesus
Matthew 17:1-8.
Let's start with the story of Leonardo da Vinci.
It is one of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpieces. 12 It is a picture of Jesus having the Lord's Supper with productions. It is so famous that there is no one in the world who has never seen this painting.
It is said that Leonardo da Vinci worked hard for many years to complete this single painting. After drawing, Leonardo da Vinci invited some friends. And he proudly showed me this picture, wrapped in a furoshiki. Everyone was amazed.
My friends who were fascinated by the painting exclaimed and said:
Hearing this praise, Leonardo da Vinci came with a brush and erased the glass. My friends, who were looking at the painting with excitement, asked in amazement.
Leonardo da Vinci spoke quietly.
Then, Leonardo da Vinci picked up the brush again and painted the face of Jesus to draw people's attention.
Leonardo da Vinci was.

Let's get to the main topic today.
Jesus took Peter, James, and John and went up a high mountain. This is Mount Tabor. Because it is the mountain where Jesus was transformed, it is also called the mountain of transfiguration today.
Jesus was transformed at the top of the mountain. His face shone like the sun. His clothes became as white as light. And I saw Jesus talking to Moses and Elijah. Peter said.
At this time, a cloud covered the three, and a voice was heard from the cloud.
When the disciples heard this voice, they fell on their faces. I was afraid. Jesus touched his hand and said,
The disciples raised their eyes and saw. No one was seen except Jesus. The bottom line was only Jesus.
1. Only Jesus rather than people
Peter and his disciples saw a man. For the Israelites, Moses and Elijah are absolute beings. The people of Israel from Egypt are the absolutes who led them out. Founder. Israel without Moses is unthinkable.
Elijah is one of the prophets. So, the last Bible in the Old Testament is Malachi, and the last chapter of the last chapter ends with Elijah in Chapter 4.
Israel is a nation waiting for the Messiah. The Old Testament is coming to an end, referring to the coming of Elijah just before the Messiah comes.
(Mal 4:5-6)
Moses was the fulfiller of the law, and Elijah was the fulfillment of the prophecies. When the two people whom the nation of Israel most respected were with Jesus, the disciples fell to the ground in admiration.
The disciples saw people.
But in the end, only Jesus remained and Moses and Elijah disappeared. The last verse of today's text ends like this:
The church is not a gathering place for perfect people, but a gathering place for saved people. The saved person is not a perfect person, but a person who goes toward perfection.
When you come to church, you have to look for the perfect Jesus, not the perfect person. Only Jesus can see the church.
The most famous talk show manager on CNN is Larry King. He is a Jew. Every time he appears on TV, he only wears a Y shirt. And the prominent suspenders on the shoulders are his trademark. And it captivates people all over the world with one microphone. We are giving hope to people by putting on a unique person every day and doing talk shows.
He answered boldly.
As the French thinker Renan said.
Only Jesus can see the community of Jesus.
2. Only Jesus rather than the environment
Peter saw Jesus talking to Moses and Elijah and said,
That's what Peter said. Peter saw a good environment. In Israel, the best place to build a house is on the top of a mountain. Because it is a place where the fresh Mediterranean breeze blows. So, in Israel, every town starts from the top of a mountain.
So Jesus said.
Peter said that we should build three tents on the mountain. It means creating a good environment. And I confess that I want to live with three famous people.
Peter is looking at his surroundings. But in the end, only Jesus was seen. No one was seen, and there was no shelter. It was only Jesus.
Moses received the Ten Commandments and the Law on Mount Sinai.
Elijah defeated the prophet Baal on Mount Carmel.
Jesus was standing with the two of them on the Mount of Transfiguration.
Mountains are important places where history takes place. Looking at the environment there, Peter wanted to live.
But the conclusion was only Jesus. The environment was not visible at all, only Jesus was seen.
Upon hearing this news, a member of another city came to visit Pastor Moody to comfort him.
The great Pastor Moody said.
Holland's First Lady Goriden Boom sheltered Jews from being slaughtered under the Nazi regime. Then he was caught and ended up in prison. He lived in a dark cave where he never knew when he would be executed. After being released from prison after the fall of the Nazi regime, he said:
