Title: Only Jesus / Mark 9:1-13

Content Only Jesus

(Mark 9:1-13)

During the three days of the revival meeting, the overall word of what I saw, heard, and felt was “Only the Lord”. All of us saw the beautiful image of Christians crucifying their passions and lusts along with their own flesh, denying themselves, carrying their cross, and walking alongside the lesser ones.

We have always boasted that our church is such a church, but it is an honest confession, but in the light of Myungsung Church in Seoul, I thought anew how lowly our church was. I am not talking about the size of the church, the number of members and the large or small budget.

changed life

This is verse 2.

Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John and went up by himself to a high mountain; and he was transfigured before them.

The word “transformation resa” (metemorfwvqh, metamorphode) here is a compound word of metav (meta) meaning “change” and morfh (morphe) meaning the quality and shape of things. It is a word that means a change of shape.

This word is used by Paul in Romans 12:2, which is used to refer to the spiritual transformation of regenerated saints or the transformation of a natural person into a new nature.

Romans 12:2.

Do not be conformed to this generation, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

This is the true life of a Christian who correctly understands the events of the Mt.

The life of a Christian who lives such a life of true spiritual change is accompanied by inevitable content.

First, there must be a confession of Galatians 2:20.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Second, we must live a life according to the word of the Lord in Mark 8:34.

If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Third, as the Lord always said, you must be a person who is qualified to receive the blessing of Matthew 25:40.

Truly, truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.

This is the life of a truly transformed believer today.

If you do not understand this right away, the life of a truly changed believer cannot be achieved. Therefore, while experiencing the events of the Mount of Transfiguration, Peter makes a human confession that he would like to build three tents and live there while understanding Moses, Elijah, and Jesus on the same line. So verse 7 continues right away.

Word-centered life

This is verse 7.

At just a cloud came and covered them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; listen to him.

That's right. The changed Christian life is a life centered on the word of Christ. When there is no word of Christ, humanism is insisted on, and it is reduced to a narcissistic believer that has nothing to do with God's will. Until he met the risen Lord, Peter's life was not truly changed. When Jesus foretold suffering and death, he exclaimed that such a thing could never happen, and shouted out that even if everyone else had abandoned the Lord, he would never do it. But Peter, who lived as a silent believer, was Satan to the Lord He had to be rebuked, and when the Lord was taken away, he had to portray the inevitable appearance of a believer who had no choice but to deny that he did not know Jesus. However, on the shore of Tiberias where I met the resurrected Jesus, I was able to confess that I love the Lord. It is the words and deeds that show his truly changed image.

Listen to me.

Deuteronomy 18:15 already prophesied about Jesus Christ.

The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers, and you must listen to him.

The same meaning is recorded in Acts 3:22-23. These words are a message to obey the words of Jesus Christ completely. So Romans 10:17 is the truth.  Faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes through the word of Christ.

A believer without the word of Christ is like an empty river. Just like the Pharisees and Sadducees, like a house built on sand because they desire signs and wonders and do not want to hear the word, they will collapse even in a small flood. Look at the life of a believer who has the Word. Even if problems like the mountain come rushing in, we will solve them in the Word. Even if we are faced with unspeakable suffering, we will overcome it in the Word. Even in the face of worldly temptations and human desires, we do not waver at all, we overcome them with the Word and become victors. The common denominator of true believers is to live the life of the Lord only by hearing and keeping the word of Christ.

only the life of the Lord

Verse 8 is an indirect record of the disciple who experienced true spiritual change on the Mount of Transfiguration.  Suddenly, I looked around and saw no one, but only Jesus and them.

That's right. When the disciples saw Moses, Elijah, and Jesus, they were almost stunned by the vulgar expression. Where would you have been? So, wasn't that what made Peter say crazy things? I want to build three huts and live here. Of course it was a taste of heaven. But God has clearly spoken. God's word was heard by Peter, who lost his discernment in a state of mind and could not distinguish between what was said and what was not.  You listen to them.   And when he came to his senses and looked up, he saw only Jesus and himself.

Here is the lesson of the Word. The saints who have experienced real change, that is, not a fake change in the form of a formal change, but a true inner and essential change, live only by the word of the Lord. And the center of that life is to become only the Lord.

What are the weaknesses of today's churches?

It is more traditional than the Lord.

It is a system rather than a Lord.

It is a relationship rather than a Lord.

It is more self than the Lord.

Far from thinking of the Lord who died on the cross for my sins, I do not hesitate to crucify Jesus again in today's life. Yet, as if he always lives the best life of faith, he asserts his own righteousness in arrogance and self-righteousness, and confesses his narcissistic cheap feelings.

The Lord is still speaking. Keep the Sunday holy. Do not love anything in the world more than God. It is spiritual adultery. love your neighbor No, love even your enemies. Love, but do not hate, but rather bless. Weep with those who weep Suffer with those who suffer. Know that what you have is enough. Today's world is dark. be the light Today's society is so rotten. be salt

On Sundays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and every morning, the Lord speaks unchangingly today through His servants. Believers who hear the Word and live according to it are truly transformed faith. The center of their lives is the Lord alone.

So the Lord said in Matthew 6:33.  Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness. Then all these things will be added to you.

Through Paul the Lord spoke in 1 Corinthians 10:31.

Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

And Paul himself confessed this life in Romans 14:7-8.  Not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, it is the Lord's. This is the life of the Lord only.

Father warns mischievous son. You don't study and you get into all sorts of trouble, so you can't stand it and you're getting the last promise.   Will you listen to me when I say nice things? Do you want to be beaten? Or will you be kicked out by your father and live your life as you please?

It is the same spiritually. The same is true of God when we sin on Sundays, steal our tithes, harass the servants of the Lord, make noise in the church here and there, and do not obey God's Word. Blessed are those who understand and listen when they speak well. A person who repents after being beaten with material, health, and family is a fool. In the end, they are spiritually cast out and become worse than unbelievers, which is truly unfortunate.

Only the Lord's life is a series of emotions and joys without any inconvenience to those who live that way, but for those who cannot live that way, it is always a yoke. is. The strange thing is that a yoke is not uncomfortable at all if worn well, but it can't be that painful if worn incorrectly. It is the same in the Christian life of faith. So Jesus spoke a wonderful truth in Matthew 11:29-30. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and your hearts will be at rest. This is because my yoke is easy and my burden is light.   This is the word-centered life of a transformed Christian who lives only the Lord's life. Amen.
