Sermons for Preaching

Title: Our Father / Matthew 6:5-9

Contents Our Father / Matthew 6:5-9

Key Verse: “Therefore, pray this way, our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name” (Matthew 6:9).

The first word a child learns is ‘mother’. But what is the title Jesus used the most? This is ‘Father.’ I hope you will find out what this word means and receive grace together.

First, Jesus always referred to God as 'Father'. The most frequent use of the word Father is in John 17. It appears more than 29 times. Except when expressing God in the third person, the Lord always calls him 'Father.' You called him 'or 'Heavenly Father.' It's really surprising to see people who often call themselves 'God' when praying for the congregation representative at church. The first and greatest word the Lord taught his disciples was ' Father'. If you look at the text, it is expressed as your Father who is in secret (verse 6), the Father who knows what you need (verse 8), and the Father in heaven (verse 9). The Lord always tells His disciples, 'You He does not say 'God', but 'your Father.' When the Lord died, he said, “Father” (Luke 23:46). The most important reason Jesus was put to death on the cross is because he said 'God is his own Father'. In the process of judging Jesus, the question is, “Are you the Son of God?” (Luke 22:70).

Second, father means the initiator. It means the one who gave birth to me, the one who started me. A person who was abandoned on the street as a child and later adopted in the United States comes to Korea and asks, “Who is the one who gave birth to me?” It is often seen in newspapers looking for his parents. Anyone who started or gave birth is important.

Third, the father means authority. It means the one who has responsibility and power. Without him, I would not be who I am today. Here is the authority and power of the saints. My Father has tremendous power and authority. Therefore, we must be bold. We must not be afraid. We are the ones who have the authority to become children of God (John 1:12).

Fourth, we must protect the dignity of our children. Father's children are meant to be those who inherit the father's inheritance. We met Heavenly Father and a new family was established. It is not the family of the devil. It is the family of God. .Brothers of faith must know this well and shine on the family of Heavenly Father and the family of heaven. It is holiness. It is holiness. It is the truth. We must live with the character of Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we have the faith as children and enjoy the victory and blessings as your own children. In Jesus' name, I pray, amen.
