Sermons for Preaching

Title: Overview of Zechariah (Zechariah 01:1)

Contents 1. Name

In verse 1:1 we read that Zechariah was the grandson of Iddo and the son of Berechiah.

This Iddo would be Iddo the Levite who returned to Palestine from Babylon (Nehemiah 12:4).

If so, Zechariah in this book is the same as Zechariah the priest of the tribe of Iddo recorded in Neh 12:16.

Zechariah began preaching two months after Haggai and was a prophet who served until the 4th year of Darius (516).

2. Content and main ideas

Zechariah is a prophet who fulfilled his responsibility to encourage the nation of Israel.

He encouraged Israel that if they repented before God and obeyed God's will, their nation would have a glorious future.

However, it is said that this is the future blessing that comes through the Messiah.

At this time, several tribes such as Samaria in the north, Ashdod in the west, and Idume in the south were afraid of Judah, which was about to be rebuilt, and prevented its revival.

Haggai and Zechariah, who tried to rebuild the nation by encouraging people to groan in and out of poverty and adversity, revitalizing religion and uniting the people, are great prophets.
