make a way
Luke 19:28-40, 2 Samuel 6:12-19
“Go to the other village. When you go there, you will find a colt tied there that no one has ridden yet. Loosen it and bring it If anyone asks you why you solve it, say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
After the decree of the council's arrest, the Lord hid for a while, and now voluntarily and publicly prepares the procession of the king. The road was heading towards Jerusalem, the final journey of his public life to bear the cross.
Napoleon crowned the Emperor of France for several years at the expense of 500,000 strong young French men. If someone had half a million people who were not even worth their lives for him, his strength and authority would be fearless. In the painting “Nothing is impossible,” Napoleon and his white horse look beautiful and full of spirit. In comparison, the appearance of a king riding on an untamed donkey, which has never been ridden on a human, is shabby. But this king riding on a donkey is ‘the king of kings’. It is because he did not put on the emperor's crown by sacrificing someone, but rather he sacrificed himself to save mankind. He is the King who showed in his body that all things do not exist for himself, but that he exists for all things.
The disciples spread their cloaks and put them on the back of the donkey, and the people spread their cloaks to make a way for the king. Finally over the pass, as the procession descends, people begin to sing. ‘Let’s be blessed. The King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, glory in the highest.”
At the dawn of Christmas, this song sung by angels is now transferred to the mouths of people. That's right. This song no longer belongs to heavenly beings, immortals. Rather, it is the song of the most humble, poor people. It has become the thing of those who have no choice but to shout ‘Hosanna’ (Save now!).
What does it mean for the disciples and the crowd to spread their cloaks and saddle them and make a way?
Or is it not the reality of human beings stained with sins and transgressions? Isn't it a life full of dirt, wickedness, lust and greed, hatred and resentment, anger and wrath, doubts and doubts? Clothing is a measure of a person's status, his condition, and his occupation. However, it only reveals the outer man, but hides the inner man. It is not known at what purpose the crowds on the road took off their cloaks to make the road. However, their deeds must have been entirely dedicated to God. They were delighted and excited. And the Lord makes their way to Golgotha with their stained and worn-out robes. It will be a new altar, and he will be offered as the Lamb of God.
People took off their coats. But God is already preparing new clothes for them to wear. Just as he made and clothed Adam and Eve with skins, they will soon be clothed with the risen Christ.
