Title: Parent Education and Child Education (1)
Text: Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Ephesians 6:1-4
[What kind of relationship should the family and the church have?] According to the Bible, the family began with creation (Genesis 2:4-25), and the church began with redemption (Matthew 16:13-20). If redemption is to realize the original will of creation, then the church has a mission to make the family home. The consequences of the fall of man recorded in Genesis lead to the fall of the family (Genesis 3:1-24). The expression “bone of bone, flesh of flesh” (Genesis 2:23) is replaced with “the woman whom God gave to be with me” (Genesis 3:12). It changes from the expression of ‘being one’ to the expression of ‘being other’. Surprisingly, the expression “because of you” also includes “creator”. Just as creation and redemption are inseparable, so are the family and the church. This is why the Word connects ‘family-church-Kingdom of God’.
When we hear ‘children’, the words of Psalm 127:3 come to mind. “Children are an inheritance from the Lord. The fruit of the womb is his reward.” Meditate on these words and imagine the reactions of your parents. 'Of course not!' or 'Well, really advanced?' You will also think about the reaction of the company?’. Every time the ideal family is talked about, not a few parents feel “guilty and anxious.” Haim Ginott described these symptoms in his book, Between Parents and Children. ‘In my grandfather’s day, whatever he did, he lived with authority. But whatever we do, we do it with hesitation. Even when he made a mistake, he did it with confidence. But even when we do the right thing, we do it with suspicion.’ In our age, parents’ authority is gone and only roles remain.
But when the ideal family is spoken of, the guilt and insecurity are felt in the children as well. These symptoms, whether true or not, are a matter for our families. This is something the church should pay attention to. This is why the family is the most important object of the church's ministry and care. Education is a form of ministry and care. This is why parent education is necessary just as education of children is necessary. At the time of Jesus, the subjects of teaching were mainly adults, and the subjects of blessings were children. However, in our time, adults seek blessings, and the subjects of instruction are mainly children. That is why education is necessary for the natural demand to become a ‘proud child’ or ‘proud parent’.
All human beings, whether children or parents, need care and education. Education is needed to heal and help, presupposing parents' imperfections, limitations, and unintentional failures. Your children's potential needs the same help. No matter where you live, whether you are a parent or a child, you must presuppose the sovereignty and providence of God the Creator. These are the contents of the Old Testament text (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) and the New Testament text (Ephesians 6:1-4). The Old Testament text is the message given during the exodus experience and the process of going towards the promised land. The New Testament text is the word given to the saints who have realized the redemption of the cross and are in the process of sanctification. God's care is a prerequisite. The presence of the Holy Spirit is a prerequisite. We must not forget that it is not only through human effort or power. Parents must first come under God's control. These are the contents of ‘engrave in your heart’ (Deuteronomy 6:5) and ‘filled with the Holy Spirit’ (Ephesians 5:18). In him all things are possible (Philippians 4:13). Hallelujah!
