Title: Paul's Case Against the Jews

Introduction

People, families, companies, and schools with a lot to be proud of are happy.

I hope that the families, companies, and schools of our members have much to be proud of.

I really wish

The Jews also had great pride.

Let's look at 2:17-20.

They were proud that they were Orthodox Jews.

Keeping pure blood and holding traditional beliefs

There was pride of being a nation chosen by God.

The Jews were also proud that there was a law.

If a country has laws, that country

It is to prove that you are systematic, organized, and orderly.

Therefore, a nation with laws is a superior nation.

Among the laws, the law is the law.

It's the best law.

Because the law is different from the law made by man.

It is an immutable law made by God.

Man-made laws can change at any time depending on the circumstances.

But the law made by God is not like that.

They believe that the law given by God is fundamentally different from that of neighboring countries

Proud to have the distinction of being different.

They also boasted of serving God.

All the peoples of the world are immersed in polytheism or pantheism,

They boasted that they were serving the only true God.

There was pride in learning the law.

From the age of 6 to 12, the law was compulsory.

From 6 to 8 years old, learn the Law as a beginner for 3 years

Ages 9 to 12 are taught in advanced classes.

If you learn this until the age of 12, you will learn the law twice.

Becoming an Orthodox Jew.

There was pride in teaching the Law.

Gentile neighbors who do not believe in God and do not lead a religious life with the truth

He had the pride of being a teacher of the leading law.

The Apostle Paul does not say that such boasting itself is wrong.

Being Jewish is indeed a blessing.

The Torah is indeed a proud thing,

Glory to God is the heart of worship.

It is also very good to receive legal education.

Being a teacher of the law is a precious thing that should not be abandoned.

But even though the apostle Paul had all these things,

That is why they do not become God's people.

Why is that?

Have the Word, learn the Word, teach the Word,

It's that they didn't put it into practice.

It's not that I didn't live up to the word.

Regarding those who did not live according to the Word, the Apostle Paul said in 2:21-24

Point out their mistakes through five questions.

first. “You who teach others, do you not teach yourself?”

Jews are taught to live righteously by looking at the wrong lives of others.

In fact, he was stingy in teaching himself to live right.

In Luke 10:30-37, there is a man who met a robber.

There were two men passing by the man who had been hit by the robber.

One was a priest and one was a rabbi.

Priests and rabbis are religious leaders.

A teacher who teaches others.

They would have taught it this way.

“Help the brothers who are in trouble.”

They say that and teach, but in front of them

When I saw the person meeting the robber, I pretended not to see him and ran away.

Knowing the truth, but teaching and training oneself to live the truth

I was not used to it, so when I met that reality, I ran away.

We speak of morals and of the way people should live and behave

claim to know some truth.

We share those truths with our children, our friends, our co-workers,

I like to teach others.

But if we can't live that way, we can't tell others how to live our lives.

What right do you have to say? There is not.

Therefore, we always look at the faults of others.

We must teach ourselves properly.

Second, “Do not steal. Do you, who proclaim, steal?”

The phrase “You shall not steal” is included in the eighth commandment in the ten commandments.

So all Israelis must not steal.

I've been listening to it since I was little.

Still, they stole.

The man who lost his coat went to court,

It is said that his cloak was spread over the court judge's chair.

It is bad to steal in court.

Rather, it is a sneak peek.

It's a terrifying reality.

Jews decided to take unfair advantage of dishonest means.

Famous people.

The merchants deceived the weights.

I made it by changing the rebak at will.

So they took an unfair advantage.

To gain an unfair advantage by deceiving

It's like poking someone else's pocket.

The Old Testament prophet Malachi

They even steal things that belong to God.

What does it mean?

It means that they did not pay the tithes they were supposed to pay to God and ate a lot.

Whoever steals even the things of God

How can you not steal from people?

Dear saints,

God covets our sweaty money

Did I tell you to tithe?

It's not like that.

It is to bless us.

Therefore, let us not all steal from God, but give our tithes

Let's become saints who receive material blessings from God.

Third, “Are you who says you do not commit adultery commit adultery?”

A rabbi's wife pretended to be someone else and followed her husband.

He said he was having adultery.

Teaching you not to commit adultery

Rather, it is said to be adultery.

No one is free from sexual offenses.

Any teacher or student who teaches can be free from sexual offenses.

There is not.

Especially for men, sexual offenses are the weakest.

Look at David, the holy man.

David, too, was walking in the palace courtyard when he saw Uriah's wife Bathsheba bathing.

Have you not committed any sexual offenses?

What can we learn from David's transgression?

A person's behavior is governed by what he sees, reads, and hears.

If we see, read, and hear sexual hints

They become slaves to the lust of the flesh.

Therefore, we must repent of the dirty thoughts in our hearts.

Do not look at colorful books, magazines, or novels.

Do not wear clothing that exposes the body excessively.

Television programs that show pornography or have such programs

You must not watch.

We must also stop the behavior that has gone the wrong way.

Kim Yu-shin, who unified the three kingdoms, also visited the gisaeng's house.

Then one day, his mother found out about this and called Kim Yu-shin to be rude.

I was scolded.

Kim Yu-shin, who was awakened by the scolding, began to go to the gisaeng house.

I stopped walking.

But the words that I did not know of Kim Yu-shin's will were while Kim Yu-shin was sleeping.

I headed to the gisaeng's house.

Kim Yu-shin, who found out that he had arrived at the gisaeng's house late, cut the horse's head on the spot.

I've hit it. It's a great will.

People of the world also have this will.

People in the world have this will too.

What if we don't have that will?

no.

Therefore, as if striking a horse's neck with a bold will,

We must cut our lustful actions and thoughts with the sword of the Holy Spirit.

Fourth, “Do you, who detest idols, steal things from gentlemen?”

The Jews considered idols extremely detestable.

Because idols were detestable, they were also reluctant to touch idolatrous currency.

If you look at the denarius, the currency of Rome at that time, you can see the face of the Roman emperor Caesar.

It is drawn.

And underneath it were these words.

“Diberius Caesar, the majestic son of the majestic God.”

So the Jews considered this currency to be idolatrous money.

I was reluctant to even touch that currency.

However, on the surface they considered idols an abomination, but behind the scenes money was given to them.

If you think you can, people who sneak into a foreign temple and steal things from the shrine

It's the Jews.

They touched idols while detesting idolatry.

The idolatrous currency was reluctant to touch, and the idol was touched.

How stupid are you?

It's a complete contradiction.

Fifth, “You who boast of the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?”

The Jews were proud of their possession of the law.

The Jews boasted that they had different laws than the Gentiles.

He not only boasted about the law, but also preached the law to the Gentiles.

The Gentiles who heard the law began to shake their heads.

that is different. The law and deeds are different.

Seeing them bragging about the law and breaking the law

The strangers began to mock.

Their ridicule has now reached a level that dishonors God.

while we speak the word of God

If we disobey His word, we dishonor God.

The Apostle Paul reveals all their false beliefs through these five questions.

And he teaches them about the right faith.

Let's look at verse 25.

If you do not keep the law, even if you are circumcised, that circumcision is useless.

The Jews' last hope is in circumcision.

I thought of circumcision as a passport to heaven.

Abraham stood at the entrance to Hell to see if he was circumcised or uncircumcised.

They say they are investigating.

a person who has been circumcised

The Jews believed that Abraham would not go to hell.

No one who is circumcised will see hell.

Circumcision saves us from hell.

Even if life's honor, money, and power all fall, one last thing

He thought that only circumcision would remain.

The Apostle Paul said to the Jews who had these false beliefs,

If you do not keep the law, even if you are circumcised, that circumcision is useless.

Circumcision is not a passport to heaven.

Baptism is precious.

There is no ceremony more precious than being baptized.

But even if you are baptized, if you do not live like a believer

What good will that baptism be?

No ritual, nationality, heredity, any particular race or ancestry, whether Jewish or

Being born into a Christian family does not make you God's people.

So, who are the true people of God?

Let's look at verse 29.

one who is praised by God

It refers to those who are justified by God.

It refers to a person who has been born again by the Holy Spirit.

To be born again of the Holy Spirit, you must die with Jesus Christ on the cross.

You must die to be born again.

“I have been crucified with Christ”

This case is mysterious.

This event transcends time and space.

The Apostle Paul said when Jesus Christ was crucified

He confesses that he himself was crucified with Jesus.

If the Apostle Paul was crucified with Jesus

We too were crucified with Jesus.

conclusion

The Apostle Paul spoke of the privileges possessed by Israel,

Says nothing is wrong.

Privilege is pride. Privileges are a good thing.

But if privilege ends in privilege, if boasting ends in boasting

Its privilege, its pride, with those who do not possess it

that it doesn't make much of a difference.

that it is indistinguishable.

God's people must be set apart.

The standard of distinction is those who receive praise from God.

A person can only praise the outward appearance.

But God sees the true form of man.

you see the heart.

Look at your heart and praise

He seals that person as a true Jew, a true people of God.

So God sees our hearts

I hope you all praise us.

Let us all become saints praised by God.
