Title: Paul's Confidence/Philippians 1:6-8
Content Paul's conviction (Philippians 3)
Philippians 1:6-8
We are sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion by the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to think this way for all of you, because you are in my heart, in my bondage and in the defense and confirmation of my gospel. Because you are all partakers of the grace with me, God is my witness how I long for you all with the heart of Jesus Christ.
general theory of certainty
確信 = faith
believe in people Trust your husband, trust your wife, trust your children.
Believe in fists, believe in wealth, believe in power, and believe in knowledge.
Living in the gospel brings the assurance of eternal life.
Those who have the assurance of eternal life can enjoy eternal life.
You can overcome the fear of death and you will never be afraid of death.
Because the assurance of eternal life is in him.
Ex) Stephen - At the place where he was stoned to death, his face brightened and he died with a face full of joy.
Peter - was not afraid of death.
Paul - He believed in death itself as a glory and lived.
Therefore, it is good for me that Paul die in the Lord.
Confession of one who has the assurance of eternal life
We believe in eternal life, but we do not make such a confession. Because I'm not sure.
Disciples of many Lords -
Because he was sure of eternal life, he was not afraid of Japanese guns and swords, and he did not worry about his life. Many pastors bowed down that shrines were not idols, but because they were convinced of eternal life, they did not bow to shrines.
If I am sure of eternal life, I worry every day that if I die now and stand before the Lord, I will look ashamed of myself. It is to look up to the sky and live without any shame.
I hope you will live the life of a victorious believer with the assurance of eternal life.
Those who are in Jesus Christ have the assurance of healing.
Those who have the confidence of healing can overcome the disease.
Confidence is also called belief.
Ex) If you look at the healing work of Jesus, two aspects appear.
One is the ministry of going around, laying hands on hands, anointing with oil, and healing diseases.
I do not write about this healing ministry in detail, but a little bit very simply.
It is recorded in verses 1 and 2 that he did such a thing.
The other is a detailed account of the work of healing, mainly for the sick.
It is about coming to the Lord and being healed. But in most of those words, Jesus declares, "Your faith has saved you."
Mark 5:25- A woman with a blood clot (34)
(Mark 5:34) “Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace, and be well from your illness.
Matthew 15:21- The daughter of the Syrobonic woman (28)
(Matthew 15:28) “Then Jesus answered and said to her, “Woman, great is your faith; it will be done as you wish.” And from that hour her daughter was healed.”
When Jesus Christ healed the sick, he saw their faith and when he saw that he had healed them, he realized that the assurance of healing makes them overcome the sick and have victory.
In addition, we live a life of faith with various convictions.
certainty of blessing
Confidence in answering prayers
Confidence of the Holy Spirit
certainty of victory
certainty of success
assurance of guidance
1. Paul's Confidence
Today we would like to share the grace of Paul through the conviction of Paul.
“We are sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Christ Jesus” (verse 6).
① Confidence in the fact that you are saved - Start doing good in you
It is the assurance of salvation that whoever believes in the blood of Jesus Christ will have all sins washed away and have eternal life.
The Philippians confessed that Jesus was the Christ and entered the class of salvation.
First, Paul speaks of the assurance of salvation among the Philippians.
The assurance of salvation is the most basic, central, and highest peak of faith.
Therefore, first of all, I hope that we will become saints who have the assurance of salvation in us.
This assurance of salvation is given by the Lord into us. Because no one can call the Lord the Christ except God. The assurance of salvation for the Philippians is God-given. Therefore, their assurance of salvation has a strong, unshakable root.
.
Assurance of salvation that comes because of abundant material possessions (saved from poverty)
Assurance of salvation that comes from physical healing (salvation from disease)
The assurance of salvation that comes through success
These things do not have strong roots, so they can only shake and fall.
I hope that we have the assurance of salvation that God gives us in 'to receive salvation from sin through faith in Jesus Christ'.
② Confidence in the gospel that God, who started our salvation, completes our salvation
Judgment and Assurance of the Second Coming
“We are sure of it that he will fulfill it until the day of Christ Jesus” (verse 6).
Although we are saved and the assurance of salvation is among us, we are still guilty of sin.
In the midst of all the world, we must live with a body and mind stained with sin.
They are called saved imperfect beings, or saved sinners.
Being saved from sin, but still living in sin.
ex) on a rainy day
Take shelter from the rain through an umbrella, but throw away your clothes.
No matter how good and good you have an umbrella, you can't help but throw away your clothes due to the water splashing from underneath.
However, it does not end with this imperfect body, but at the time of the Second Coming of the Lord in the last days, on the day of judgment, regardless of our sins, our bodies will come to salvation and dwell in the kingdom of God.
confidence in the future He had confidence in heaven.
③ Confidence in the present
It refers to the assurance that salvation not only begins and completes in the end, but also continues to work. I am convinced that He is working in me to live as a saved person in the present moment.
Some say that after God created the world, he just let it go. However, God is clearly living and working even now.
Even after being saved, Paul confessed
Romans 7:18-24
(Romans 7:15) I do not know what I do, for I do not do what I want, but do what I hate (Romans 7:16) If I do what I do not want to do
And by this I confess that the law is good (Romans 7:17)
It is not me, but sin that dwells in me (Romans 7:18).
I know that I don't; I have a desire, but I do not do good.
Romans 7:19) I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want to do.
(Romans 7:20) If I do what I do not want to do, it is not I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. (Romans 7:21) Therefore I understand a law: (Romans 7:22) I delight in the law of God in my inner man (Romans 7:23) In my members another law wars against the law of my heart, and has taken me captive to the law of sin that is in my members. to see what is coming
(Romans 7:24) O wretched man I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
A human body where good and evil coexist.
A sinner who looks for good in his heart, but does evil in his heart.
So, oh, I'm a wretched person.
It is the assurance of the presence of God who is with us in this reality and dwells in us to give us strength, strength, and victory.
Paul's convictions toward the Philippians.
assurance of salvation
confidence in the future
Confidence in the present history
Confidence in the beginning, process, and completion of salvation.
2. Basis of Confidence
Paul's conviction like this is not just Paul's wish. This conviction is clearly
are losing It's not about telling you to be confident, but when you have a basis, you'll have a bold and unwavering conviction.
Paul's convictions are grounded in truth.
Paul said, "You are in my heart."
"I long for them with the heart of Jesus Christ"
Paul is speaking to the Philippians with this deep love.
It's not that you have this kind of faith, it's not that you have this confidence, but "I say to you, dearly beloved, it is certain. You are saying “I am sure”.
Paul goes further and says that God is the witness of these things.
It's not just the desire of Paul's own love, it's that God is claiming to be a witness in all these things. Therefore, you should know that it is a guaranteed assurance from God.
The basis of this assurance is God.
3. The life of the confident
“All of you were partakers of the grace with me in my bondage and in the vindication and confirmation of the gospel.”
① Bondage - Tribulation experienced while preaching the Gospel
Paul was imprisoned several times for actually preaching the gospel.
(Ephesians 6:20) It is natural for me to be an ambassador in chains for this purpose.
so that you may be bold in your words.
(Colossians 4:18) I, Paul, greet you with my own hand: Remember my bonds, Grace be with you.
This is the situation as I am writing this letter right now.
Considering Paul was imprisoned in Philippi for preaching Christ, perhaps the Philippians were imprisoned because of the gospel.
Those who have confidence live a life that is prepared for suffering because of the gospel.
② Making excuses for the gospel - There were times when I stood in court and proclaimed the truth of the gospel.
(Acts 26:28) Agrippa said to Paul, “You are trying to persuade me to become a Christian with a few words. I want God to be like me, except for one thing.”
We must live a life that is a witness of the gospel.
③ Confirmed. - to give a firm and lasting basis;
To strengthen or fortify certain things that are essential to evangelism.
(Acts 14:22) He strengthened the hearts of the disciples and exhorted them to abide in this faith, and said that we must go through many tribulations to enter the kingdom of God.
In addition to simply exhortation, many powers appeared in Paul's evangelism, healing the sick, and performing miracles, demonstrating the firm evidence that God is alive.
Faith is power. Power is proof that God lives.
④ One who participated in grace
The Philippians were those who participated in Paul's ministry to the end.
For Paul's ministry, they did not cease to pray, did not cease to support, and were faithful and faithful to the end.
Therefore, Paul said to the Philippians that they were the ones who went through all the tribulation with me. those who did everything together. They say they are co-workers.
Those who have confidence are the ones who will not give in to any tribulation and will be faithful to the end.
Bondage and (Suffering for the Gospel)
Making excuses (testing the gospel)
Confirmation (confirming the gospel of those who participate)
The Philippians were faithful to the end for the gospel.
However, some Christians are not loyal to the end, give up halfway, and fall
There are losers. It is like an unfinished book, an unfinished sculpture, an unfinished building and
same.
Philippians to the end
That is, those who work for the gospel (for Christ).
Those who live for the gospel (Christ),
Those who can die for the gospel (Christ).
What was convinced Paul of the Philippians was that their devotion
is in life
With the God-given assurance of the beginning, course, and consummation of salvation within us,
A saint who is faithful to the Lord to the end.
