Peace from God!
Luke 24:36-43.
Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day to give us the rest of life. The first thing the resurrected Jesus said to his disciples was, “Peace be with you.” .
Those words must have been the most needed words for the disciples, who were trembling with fear and uncertainty about the future.
If Jesus were to come to us now, what would he say first?
You'll probably say those words again. This is because our lives in reality are also living a life of worry, anxiety, fear and pain due to the wrong life.
All living things want peace. Everyone wants peace. The Bible uses the words 'peace, peace' together.
The poet Dante, who wrote The Divine Comedy, said, 'Peace is the target of all kinds of arrows'. In other words, everyone wants peace.
Humans have many desires, and among them, the desire for stability is also very large.
But there is a problem. In Luke 19:41, 42, Jesus said, “When he came near, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “You should have known today about the peace, but now it is hidden from your eyes.” You look at me and cry.
Life is about longing for peace and not knowing what peace is. In order to be happy, I work hard from dawn to night, but no one knows what true happiness is. Not only do they not know that peace, but furthermore, that peace is hidden.
In fact, when we look into our lives quietly, we want peace, but we ourselves are destroying that peace.
Ex) A chieftain in Africa and a missionary from England met and talked about various things.
"There is World War I in that country right now, and many people are killing each other." The chief said, "How many people do you kill? Ten? Do you kill a hundred?" "no." "--Isn't it supposed to kill a few hundred people?" "No. It kills tens of thousands." Then the chief, with an expression of incomprehension, said, "Why do white people kill so many people when they say they don't even eat human meat?"
This is where our problem lies.
Marx said that 'the problem of the world is peace'. I thought that economic problems must be resolved in order to be at peace. He thought this way, as long as the animal is full, it will be at peace. A fat animal doesn't talk. Even that terrifying Sabah will not hurt even if a rabbit runs around in front of his nose as long as his stomach is full. So, Marx said, 'Aha, if the economic problem is solved, it will be enough for everyone to live satisfactorily. I thought, 'Peace can come to the world if we distribute it fairly to everyone.' But that was an illusion.
In this respect, humans are inferior to animals.
People covet when they see other people's things even when they are full. People want to have it again. Still, they are greedy to own them. There is no satisfaction, no covetousness, no greed.
Because of this, peace is broken in the world, and even individuals do not have a heart of peace.
People want peace, but do not know peace. The work of peace is hidden by human sin, pride, and greed.
Example) [Berhafe], a famous person in the 18th century, died at the end of his will, and there was a secret law written on it, so a rich man paid a lot of money to buy the will and keep the secret When I looked at the Dharma, it was said that there were only two lines: "Keep your head cool, keep your feet warm, and always keep your stomach up with the news."
There is also a western proverb that says, "Every day with a knife and fork (spoon and chopsticks) a man digs his own grave."
This can also be thought of as meaning that we should be able to control our own greed.
If a person does not give up greed, he will never be at peace, and in this world where greedy people gather, peace will never come.
It is often thought that having a lot of money makes you happy and at peace.
I think that if you leave a lot of legacy to your children, they will live happily and peacefully for the rest of their lives. But I don't know how big a mistake it is.
There is a meeting these days to develop the 'Leave Legacy Movement', which is a good thing.
We all know the parable of the 'rich fool', but we often become that person.
Ex) Global denial [Rockefeller] confessed frankly, "I saved 10 million dollars, but it didn't give me happiness."
As the car king [Henry Ford] said, "Money has nothing to do with happiness. My happiest days were when I was young and worked as an auto mechanic."
[Luther] "Wealth is the most valuable gift from God. God sometimes gives it to fools who have nothing to give but money."
Anyway, the functional relationship between wealth and peace is not right.
Moreover, some people view a life of playing and eating without work as happiness.
I know that happiness is to make others work comfortably and to eat. I believe that happiness is living with honor and authority while reigning over others.
Ex) I don't want to work in the military, so I go to the bathroom and hide. Can your heart be at peace?
Yes) I think the president is the most pitiful. There is no such thing as freedom. Just do what others tell you to do.
How tired and uncomfortable are you?
We should know happiness through the sense of accomplishment and joy that comes after hard work.
Rather than reigning over others and seeking happiness by being superior to others, we should taste the serenity and happiness that comes from serving, loving, and humble.
- The word 'peace' in the Bible is 'shalom' in Hebrew and 'Eirene' in Greek. This does not mean only temporal peace. 'Health, prosperity, happiness, freedom, justice, reconciliation, victory, etc.' is a word that refers to the combined blessing of all things.
So, 'peace' means a complete life, that is, total happiness, in which our lives are in perfect harmony with our bodies, our souls, and our surroundings.
- What do the disciples look like in today's text?
"Surprised, frightened, frightened, in doubt."
They hid in the attic and kept the door shut. Not only the door has been closed, but the door of the heart has also been closed.
There is no such thing as peace.
What is our life like now?
Tired and exhausted, surprised by the world's affairs, afraid of an uncertain tomorrow, and full of worries and anxieties about the world's events. There is no peace to be found.
Doubts and unbelief that arise in our hearts even though we believe in the existence of God and want to win by relying on God. Rather than the power of faith, a heart that regrets and sells its mind to what is immediately visible.
only? 'Peace' might be a rather luxurious word in the face of the world's scars.
- What we need to be clear about here is that 'peace' can only arise in [faith].
While speaking of peace, Jesus continues to give faith to his disciples.
Verse 39 tells us to touch it. In verse 41 and below, he asks the disciple who is still skeptical to give him something to eat and eats it in front of him, trying to give him faith.
John 20:27 He said to Thomas, "Stretch out your hand and put it in my side. And do not be unbelievers, but believers."
If we have a strong belief in God's work in our lives, we believe that we can sing and praise with joy with 'peace' in our hearts among the many complicated and difficult things of life.
Ex) People bitten by fiery serpents in the wilderness-
If you believe and look at the serpent on the stick, you will be healed and live a peaceful life. Some people died in pain because they persisted in believing.
“We bless you that we too will not become unbelievers but become believers.”
Even in the midst of pain and trials, even when we are faced with frustrating or unfair things, we must believe that God is with us.
You must believe that the God who is with you helps you and creates your life as a life of greater grace.
E) The old toilets are remote and scary. If you go at night, it's not scary if someone accompanies you. So I ask you to go with me.
But is it okay if I go with that weak and small person? Even if we die, is it because we die together?
In fact, you don't know how much comfort and strength it can be to have someone by your side in life.
But to those who believe, the risen Jesus is with them. Almighty God will not leave us. you are always together
With this belief alone, we are victorious. We will overcome any tribulation and trials. You will never lose your calm and peace in the midst of anything.
- Also, you should know that 'peace' is not something you create or achieve by yourself.
Peace is a blessing from God.
“Peace be with you,” he says. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you” (John 14:27).
When the Bible speaks of peace, it always speaks as a blessing from God.
When the nation of Israel served God well, God gave it peace.
2 Chronicles 20:30 "The kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, because God had given them peace on all sides."
Paul also emphasizes in his greeting that peace is from God.
True peace is a gift from God.
To the disciples who are trembling after committing the sin of forsaking the Lord, those who are groaning in the fear of life, and those who are exhausted and desperate and fearful, Jesus visits them and presents them with the gift of 'peace'.
He will come to us, who are still losing peace in various ways, and give us peace. To those of us who have lost peace without rest because we are weary and tired, weary and weary, and those of us who are trembling in fear and fear of life, weeping in sorrow and sorrow, the living Jesus, who died and rose from the dead, will come to us and give us the gift of peace.
"Peace be with you."
He is here now and he speaks. "Peace be with you."
Everyone, open your heart wide, receive him, and believe in him. Let's make a beautiful and wonderful life because of Jesus who gives us peace in this harsh world.
Stretch your chest. And receive the blessing of peace from the Lord.
"Peace be with you!"
Amen.
