Title: Peace with yourself

Sermon Day-090531 Sunday Noon

Title - Peace with yourself

Bible - John 16:33

It is not only the teaching of the Bible that the saints should seek peace or peace, but it is also the foundation of morality.

Then, it is important to know who we are to promote peace.

The Bible teaches that first, “you must make peace with God,” second, “you must make peace with men,” and third, “you must have peace with yourself.”

Also, Jesus said, “The peacemakers are called the sons of God” (Matthew 5:9).

It is the duty of saints to promote peace in this way.

Yehwa - True faith has power

Reverend Charles Wesley spent one night with a dismayed death row inmate who would be executed a few hours later.

Although it was a short time, it was a precious time for the death row inmates to change their place of residence forever.

The death row inmates went to the place of execution, clearly convinced that Christ had died for them and was waiting to receive them into heaven. How could these things have happened in such a short amount of time?

It was because of one true Christian, Charles Wesley.

A true Christian has an invisible power.

That power is the power to lead those around you to Christ.

In order to enjoy peace: Now, even before his death on the cross, Jesus labors to make sure that his disciples have everything they need to have.

The peace that Jesus gives is incomparably superior to worldly things (14:27).

This peace comes from the joy of the heart (verse 22) despite being persecuted in the world.

And also, this peace, which is the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22), was obtained after the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

Be courageous: The object of which the disciples should be bold is the tribulation they will face in the world.

While this tribulation is a contrasting term to the peace mentioned in the first half, it also contrasts the starting point of both.

That is, tribulation comes from the world, and peace comes from Jesus. But as Jesus conquered the world, so also the promise that peace overcomes tribulation is guaranteed. For this reason, Jesus exhorted his disciples to be bold (Matthew 5:12).

1. The self divided by original sin

The original sin event, when Adam ate of the forbidden fruit, means that man was divided into two selves of good and evil.

Since then, the human personality has been divided into the good self and the evil self.

“I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want to do” (Romans 7:19).

Therefore, human beings as natural persons are, in a strict sense, unstable beings who must always experience internal conflicts.

Example - When you are criticized

This caused the church to grow for the first time in 90 years.

Not long after, the worship service was held in two parts, and there was no choice but to build a new church building to expand more classrooms and worship spaces.

From this point on, a lot of criticism began to be heard.

Criticism of the pastor is usually “People say… “It started with the words.

He was pessimistic that he hadn't done anything right.

His criticism was so harsh that he felt that everyone in the church hated him.

He knelt down in anguish. He sought peace of mind and the Lord's guidance.

Later he explained to him what had happened.

“As I prayed, I realized that there were only four families who criticized me.

They were the people who took the lead in the church before I took the lead,

Those who, for whatever reason, did not want to change.

I have found that few people think the same way about me.”

We need to listen to people's criticism. But you also need to look at them coldly.

Before we get discouraged by people's criticism, we should ask ourselves a few things:

*Where does that criticism come from?

* Is everyone really hostile to me? Aren't there only a few critics of me?

* Is there any truth in the criticism?

* Is there anything to be learned from criticism? (Galilean Village)

I have conquered the world: Here, the world refers to all the adversaries separated from God, the group of Satan, and their forces. On the other hand, the expression ‘I have overcome’ (Nicao) is used in the epistles of John in addition to the main text to denote spiritual victory. Jesus speaks in the PERFECT VERB when describing victory over the world. This perfect form has a unique meaning in this verse. In other words, since Jesus has not yet taken up the cross, the victory of the resurrection has not yet been achieved. Nevertheless, the use of the PERFECT VERB is because the victory is in the future but is completely secured.

2. Acquisition of Peace through Christ

The way that human beings who struggle with themselves due to self-division can be freed from this conflict and anxiety is to believe in the atoning grace of Jesus Christ and receive the forgiveness of sins.

“My peace I give to you. I give you not as the world gives” (John 14:27).

Peace with oneself is sanctified after human beings have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and gradually increases, and complete peace is achieved when the saints are resurrected.

The resurrection of the saints means that human beings who were divided because of original sin are reunited in Christ, thereby enjoying perfect peace.

Without peace with yourself, you cannot make peace with anyone.

The objects we need to make peace with are God, our neighbors, and ourselves.

This peace comes from God and comes from the washing of sins through faith in the atoning grace of Jesus Christ.

Only those who have made peace with God can make peace with their neighbors, and only those who are at peace with God and their neighbors can achieve the resurrection and complete peace by enjoying the peace of one's self.
