Title: Peacemakers / Matthew 5:9
Contents Prayer of Peace
- Francis -
Lord use me as an instrument of peace
love where there is hate
Forgive where there is a wound
Faith where there is doubt
Hope where there is despair
light where there is darkness
Bring joy where there is sorrow
oh holy lord
I comfort rather than be comforted
understand rather than be understood
to love rather than to be loved
By giving ourselves completely, we receive
being forgiven by forgiving
Because death gives us eternal life.
I hope this time will be changed into an instrument of God's peace.
Main subject
1. Who is the peacemaker?
1) The meaning of the word eijrhnopoioi
① These are not those who simply belong to peace, but those who make peace. Peacemaker
② The original Hebrew word םוֹלשׁ (shalom) means the same as shalom, not simply the absence of war.
It means [everything that contributes to the supreme good of man]. (Barclay)
③ This peace is not a temporary peace that comes from avoiding problems, but rather by actively confronting them.
It is to create a peace of wrestling and conquering.
-not just those who have peace in their hearts or those who love peace
He is an active peacemaker.
- A person who longs for peace and does everything he can to create and maintain it (Lloyd)
2) Bible
Matthew 5:39 I say to you, do not resist the evil one.
If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn the other
Matthew 5:44 I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
Romans 12:17 Repay no one evil for evil, but do good in the sight of all men.
Romans 12:18 If it is possible for you, be at peace with all men.
① The Bible does not simply speak of the position of a third party who is a mediator of peace, but rather a person who is actually facing a problem as a party and says to become a person who makes peace.
② In other words, it refers to the person who makes peace first.
3) Qualifications of a peacemaker
The cause of quarrels is that [put your own interests first] in solving problems.
rather than solving the problem
[How will the results affect me?]
[What good is it for me to do so?]
[Then what will happen to me?]
Because we focus on what we do.
The ultimate cause of contention is thus man's selfish [sin].
James 4:1 Where do wars and strife among you come from?
Was it not of the lusts of war among your members?
James 3:16 For where there is envy and strife, there is disturbance and every evil thing.
1 Timothy 6:5 Let the heart become corrupt and lose the truth
Conflicts arise among those who regard godliness as the material of gain.
①Therefore, in order to solve problems and bring about peace, above all else, we must abandon ourselves and
It should be approached with [Absolute Neutral].
Nervous, irritable, approaching, irritable, or shutting oneself down to others
Don't even try to inject your own opinion.
So, how can you abandon yourself and stand in absolute neutrality?
② You must become a new person.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:18 All things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
Only when you become a new person through Jesus Christ can you cast away your selfish self and become a peacemaker.
A new person can forsake himself.
Romans 14:7 None of us lives to himself,
no one dies
Romans 14:8 If we live, we live for the Lord; if we die, we die for the Lord.
Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
③ You must have a new worldview.
A peacemaker must not only give up his selfish glory, but also be determined to live for the glory of God.
Only those who live for the glory of God without falling into favoritism, hatred, or prejudice toward others, not only themselves, can bring peace. (Lloyd-Jones)
**** This must follow the example of Jesus Christ ****
God sent Jesus Christ into the world to make peace with us,
Jesus Himself became the propitiatory product of reconciliation with us by bearing the cross.
Colossians 1:19 The Father causes all fullness to dwell in Jesus,
Colossians 1:20 who made peace through the blood of his cross, whether
He delighted in the reconciliation of the things in heaven to himself through him.
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 2:6 Although he was in the form of God, he did not consider equality with God to be robbery.
Philippians 2:7 On the contrary, he emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death.
that he died on the cross
4) The attitude of a peacemaker
① First
[Be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger!]
James 1:19 Know that, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear,
Be slow to speak and slow to anger
②Second
[If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, drink him]
Romans 12:20 If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink...
We are to be peacemakers, peacemakers, and peacemakers.
To do that, you have to give up on yourself and become a new person. It must be changed to a life lived for the glory of God. Those who do not know Jesus Christ are ultimately selfish. However, we who have been transformed through Jesus Christ are those who have given up on ourselves for the glory of God.
Now we are not for my own benefit, but for Christ's sake, the peacemaker, the peacemaker
I bless you in the name of the Lord.
2. With whom should I make peace?
1) Peace between God and man
2 Corinthians 5:20 ... Be reconciled to God.
① Through Jesus Christ, we were restored from our distance from God due to Adam’s sin.
You must be at peace with God.
Ephesians 2:13 Now you, who were formerly afar off, have been made near by the blood of Christ in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:14 He is our peace, who made the two one and broke down the middle wall.
Ephesians 2:16 And that the cross might reconcile them both to God in one body.
② You must first make peace with God.
2) We must make peace with the brothers who believe.
1 Thessalonians 5:13 ... Be cherished in love and be at peace among yourselves.
1 Thessalonians 5:14 And I exhort you, brethren, admonish the small, comfort the weak, support the weak, be patient with all.
**Jesus said
Matthew 5:23 Therefore, while you are offering your gift on the altar, there is nothing against your brother that is grievous.
reminds me of there
Matthew 5:24 Leave your gift before the altar and go first and be reconciled to your brother.
Then come and offer your gift.
3) Make peace with everyone
Romans 12:18 If it is possible for you, be at peace with all men.
1 Thessalonians 5:15 Be careful that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good, with one another and with all others.
Hebrews 12:14 Seek peace and holiness with all men, without which
no one will see you
**It is said to love even your enemies.
Matthew 5:43 And you have heard that it is said, "Love your neighbor and hate your enemies."
Matthew 5:44 I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
We must first of all be reconciled to God, to be reconciled to those who believe, to be reconciled to everyone as much as possible, and to love even our enemies, so that we can become ambassadors of reconciliation. In the name of the Lord, I pray that you will become believers who achieve true reconciliation with all people and are used as tools of reconciliation.
