Title: Penance and Hope/Psalm 130:1-8

Contents

This poem is a poem of repentance as the author is unknown. Confession is the process of sanctification that believers who are going to heaven must go through.

1. The poet who found sin in the midst of suffering (1-2).

(Psalm 130:1) “Out of the depths I cried out to you, O LORD” What is the plight of the poet? Also, although it is not known specifically what he is crying out to the Lord, it seems that the poet is clearly in trouble. He is pleading with the Lord in the midst of suffering.

When people are comfortable, they cannot look back on their own faults and faults. You will recover the humility to look back on yourself when you are afflicted and difficult, and when trials and tribulations come.

2. Realizing that suffering was caused by sin, he begs forgiveness (3-4).

The poet had a realization of his sin in the midst of great tribulation. This realization is called grace. Because those who do not rely on God do not even know their sins. You are already receiving God's grace from the moment you come to recognize your sin. Therefore, if you have the realization of sin, the pain of the tribulation you are facing can be reduced. It is because there is hope that suffering will disappear as long as the problem of sin is solved. Therefore, when you realize your sin, you must ask God for forgiveness.

“For the Lord is forgiving.” Why is your faith at risk? It is when we do not repent despite our conviction of sin. Far from repenting, there are some who are resentful. Such a rebellious person will not be able to escape from the suffering.

3. Repent and hope for salvation in hope (5-6).

The poet, who was convinced of God's forgiveness, said that he awaited the grace of salvation in hope. The poet likens this to a watchman more desperate than waiting for the morning. Watchmen stand up at night to guard the castle, and in the morning they endure the long night in the hope that the watch will be over and they will be able to rest. Therefore, waiting for the morning is inevitable. However, the poet said that waiting for God's grace is more earnest than waiting for the watchman. However, God doesn't give us grace when we want to, He gives grace when He wants us to.

Verse 5 says, "I hope for that word!" The Word is Christ. The only way we can be saved from our sins and receive grace is through Christ. Only Christ can truly comfort us.

4. We must long for the grace of redemption (7-8).

The psalmist urges the people of Israel to thank God for his salvation and for his grace. Only we must live with the wonderful emotion of the salvation we have received.

Those who live with this hope can overcome any difficulties on this earth. Only such people can carry out the mission of the gospel, the amazing mission of saints. We must live so that our salvation may become more abundant, and furthermore, the blessings and secrets of this wonderful salvation may be witnessed to others.
