The word Peniel means the face of God, and it is a very blessed and glorious word. This is what Jacob, who was left alone before crossing the Jabbok River after sending all his possessions and his wife and children first, fought a battle for prayer that night and after receiving an answer, he confessed.
Why did God show the face of God at dawn after not answering the prayers that he cried and vomited all night to Jacob, whom he loved so much, at the ferry site of the Jabbok River?
God sometimes hides his face
Sometimes God hides the face of love and kindness and shows the fearful face of wrath even to His beloved disciples. He loves you, but sometimes you are showing the face of wrath on the outside.
Why does God hide his face and show a different face?
First, for repentance.
God hid his face for a long time for David's thorough repentance. Joseph hid his face in Genesis 43:30 when he met his brothers and especially his younger brother Benjamin.
And for training.
Job 23:8-10
But when I go forward, he is not; I go back and do not see him; he works on the left, and I cannot find him; he turns to the right, but he cannot see me. Only he knows the way I go; and after he has tried me I will come out like gold.
Also for greater blessings.
Think of the Syrophonic woman's plea and Jesus' answer.
Believers must be able to see the true face of God even in the midst of wrath.
Sometimes God hides his face from me, but he still loves me. God sometimes sends terrible wrath, but still His face is love.
Those who find this face are full of courage, confidence, joy and hope. It is also to become a mature saint who is overflowing with gratitude to God.
